DESCRIPTION

The 2027 Faction Prodigy 1 Capsule with Salomon Strive 14 GW Bindings wears a limited-edition graphic from artist Elsa Grace, part of her ongoing Prodigy Capsule residency. The design pulls from antique tilework and warm-weather memories, with motifs of botanical refuges and little creatures tucked into tall summer grass. Construction, shape, and on-snow feel are untouched, so underneath the art is the same directional twin made for skiers who divide their time between the park and the groomers. We paired the Prodigy 1 Capsule with the Strive 14 because of this binding’s well known reputation for safety, reliability, and ease of use. Featuring an LDN toe piece that optimizes contact and response, these bindings integrate seamlessly with boots and skis, allowing for a natural flex and balanced stance, making them the perfect choice to pair with this ski.

Why we like it:

The Capsule program treats each ski like a canvas, and the result feels personal and collectible instead of just another colorway. It's tough to argue with a great ski wrapped in great art.

Who it's for:

Intermediate to advanced park-and-trail skiers who already love the Prodigy 1 platform and want a version with a distinct, artistic stamp.

Highlights:

The headline here is the topsheet. Elsa Grace's matte artwork swaps the standard look, but from a construction standpoint nothing shifts from the standard Prodigy 1: the poplar and ash core still marries energetic pop to the damping and grip that steady it on firm snow. The carbon and rubber stomp pad continues to settle landings, and Faction's XL edges still shrug off rails and boxes. The directional twin sidecut carries over too, built around an 88 mm waist. At the core is the three-part heel, which delivers the secure boot retention the Strive line is known for while keeping weight reasonable. Salomon's elastic travel keeps the binding planted through chatter and cut-up snow, so it does not get knocked offline easily. The LDN toe spreads lateral input across an extra-wide pedal for crisp edge-to-edge power transfer, and a sliding toe pedal lets the ski bend underfoot for a more natural flex. The whole assembly rides on a low-profile chassis that drops the stance and centers the skier over the ski. It accepts both standard alpine and GripWalk boot soles, and the binding is TUV certified.

Things to consider:

Capsule skis come in limited numbers, so getting one can be the hard part. The narrower waist give some versatility to explore, but keeps it out of true off-trail territory, so if you're looking for a ski for deep days, this isn't the answer.

Fit & sizing considerations:

These ski true to size, so stick with what you usually ride and step down only when you want a more nimble feel for rails and spins.
