DESCRIPTION

The 2027 K2 Mindbender 96 with Tyrolia Attack 14 GW Bindings is an all-mountain workhorse that threads the needle between hardpack precision and soft-snow versatility. A mid-width waist and the updated Dark Matter construction give it a surfier, more forgiving character than a dedicated carver while keeping real bite on firm snow. It is built to be the one ski you reach for all season. We paired the Mindbender 96 with the Tyrolia Attack 14 GW because of the Attack’s light weight, reliability, and ease-of-use for all mountain and freeride skiers. Additionally, ample elastic travel and direct power transmission function to ensure these bindings cater perfectly to the needs of demanding freeriders.

Why we like it:

This might be the ski where Dark Matter Technology pays off most. Placing weighted inserts at set points near the tips and tails amplifies edge engagement on firm snow while the rest of the ski stays light and quick. It is a smart way to build carving precision into a ski that never feels like a heavy carver.

Who it's for:

All-mountain skiers in the advanced-to-expert range who genuinely ski everywhere. Strong intermediates ready to push themselves can grow into it.

Highlights:

Dark Matter is the story here, with the inserts set at points along the tip and tail edges; that placement is what gives the 96 its carve-oriented bite on firm snow. The shape backs it up with added tip taper and a touch more rocker than before, lending a surfier, more forgiving feel once the snow softens. Underneath, K2's Aspen Paulownia core delivers a strong-to-weight ratio that is tough to beat in this category, and the Titanal I-Beam threads metal down the center for damping that never deadens the ski. With a low stand height of just 17 millimeters, the 2027 Tyrolia Attack 14 offers an impressively close connection to the snow, delivering precise power transmission and a confident, locked-in feel. The FR Pro3 toe piece allows for a full 180 degrees of boot release, enhancing safety in a variety of fall scenarios, while the AFS (Anti-Friction Slider) ensures reliable re-centering and consistent release characteristics. Built to withstand hard use, the Attack 14 combines durability with performance, making it a go-to option for aggressive skiers who demand trust in their gear.

Things to consider:

Anyone coming off the older Mindbender 96 expecting an identical ski will notice the change; the new shape and more intuitive feel reads less aggressive at the very top end even as it gets friendlier through the middle of the speed range.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Standard sizing applies, so drop a length for maneuverability, or bump up a length for stability in chop and soft snow.

A bit more rigid than I used to be but still trying to be dynamic, smooth, and fluid with varying degrees of success. Skis on the snow, these days.

Skied at Pico on mainly firm and jumbled groomers.
Did this length feel short, long, or just right? Would you recommend sizing up or down, or does it ski "true to size?" Would you choose this length for yourself?
While a 178 is normally on the short side, I really liked the length and thought it delivered a wonderful amount of power, stability, and confidence while being lighter and more mobile. I'd have to try the longer length to decide which is more appropriate for me.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?
This ski rips. I started with flatter and quicker turns before leaning into it more and giving it more edge angle. No matter how hard I pushed, the Mindbender 96 kept answering the call. I was very impressed with the edge grip and tenacity of this ski. Would love to try it in variable terrain to see how the versatility holds up.
For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?
This is an all-terrain, all-mountain ski for sure. I'm impressed with the groomer and on-piste performance and it felt like it'd work great in trees and softer bumps as well due to the quicker feel and supportive nature.
What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?
This is more of an advanced and expert level ski. I think an intermediate would be overpowered by the metal and width.
Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?
Great pull into the turn and wonderful energy at exit. Skiers who feel that a Mantra or Enforcer is a bit much should definitely check this ski out.
