2027 Kastle MX88 Skis W/ K12 PRW GW Bindings
SKU AM8824PThe Kastle MX88 is the most versatile member of the MX lineup, delivering the line's race-derived construction in a wider platform for skiers who want their MX to handle more than just perfect groomers. The 88 still feels locked in when driven, but thanks to modern shaping and a tip rocker profile, you get some versatility for when the white stuff starts to fall.
Why we like it:
Adding All-Mountain Tip Rocker to the MX construction is what makes this ski click. You keep the dampness and edge hold of the MX line but pick up float and forgiveness in the tip, especially when conditions get variable.
Who it's for:
Advanced and expert all-mountain skiers who want race-tier edge grip in a ski wide enough to handle storm days. Better suited to skiers comfortable putting power into the front of the ski.
Highlights:
Construction-wise, the MX88 mirrors the rest of the MX family: an Infini Core AMTN with poplar and beech vertical stringers, two sheets of Titanal sandwiching the core, and a Full Race Sidewall that keeps things tight from edge to boot. The Hollowtech Evo shovel is doing real work here. At 88mm underfoot, you'd expect a heavier swing weight, but the material reduction in the shovel keeps this ski feeling quick on the entry. Where the MX88 separates itself from the MX84 is the rocker profile. The All-Mountain Tip Rocker gives the ski a longer effective edge in firm conditions when you tip it over, but lets the tip plane up in soft snow. The Milled Tip and Fast Grip Shovel & Tail tuning round things out for predictable turn initiation. With an 18.8-meter radius at the 181 and a 130mm tip, this is a longer-radius ski than the narrower MX84 by intention. It wants to be driven through bigger arcs at higher speeds, which suits the wider waist and rockered tip.
Things to consider:
It's still a stiff, demanding ski. The added width and rocker make it more forgiving than the MX84 in soft snow but the flex and the metal layup mean you have to put energy into it. If you ski more passively, the Sublime line is the better fit at any width. The longer turn radius also means it's less of a short-turn carver than its narrower siblings.
Fit & sizing considerations:
Sizes true to length. Standard sizing recommendations apply. Skiers who want more stability in soft snow can size up; skiers who prioritize quickness can drop a length.
