DESCRIPTION

The 2027 Nordica Unleashed 106 CA with [binding full name] is a playful freeride ski built for skiers who want a surfy, maneuverable ride with just enough edge grip when it counts. It blends flotation and agility for soft snow adventures without losing composure when things get firm. [binding KD overview]

Why we like it:

It offers a balanced, accessible freeride feel with surprising edge hold and damping for a metal-free construction.

Who it's for:

Best suited for advanced to expert skiers who prioritize soft snow performance, slashes, and playfulness in off-piste terrain.

Highlights:

Nordica's Freeride Flow Shape pairs with a Lite Performance Wood Core and carbon stringers here, keeping a 106 mm waist light and snappy rather than ponderous. Going without metal is the defining choice, and it is what gives this version its surfy, forgiving character. Even so, edge hold and damping turn up in greater measure than a metal-free build would suggest. [binding highlights]

Things to consider:

This is not a hard-charging ski for icy steeps or high speeds; skiers who prefer precision and dampness will want more metal underfoot.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Stick with your usual size on this one, or add a length if float and stability in deep snow matter more to you than quickness.

Stowe, mix of groomers and some deeper wind drifts, some wind-buffed, some really nice powder.
Did this length feel short, long, or just right? Would you recommend sizing up or down, or does it ski "true to size?" Would you choose this length for yourself?
It skis shorter than the Unleashed 108, but I don't think it skis "short" from an overall perspective. Looking forward to trying the 178, but I expect I'll prefer 185.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?
I was initially surprised at how grippy it was for a 106 ski with no metal, but there's a lot of camber and it's not super soft, so it makes sense. On firmer snow, it felt snappy, energetic, and lively, but more trustworthy than I expected. It makes a nice round turn and feels quite responsive. In deeper snow, it releases easier than the Unleashed 108 and overall is relatively easy to ski and intuitive. It's certainly not the softest, most playful freeride ski out there, but strikes a nice balance for a lot of skiers.
For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?
It's excels in tight, technical terrain when you have to make quick moves, but does require some skier input. That's reflected by the fact that it's pretty supportive if you want to ski fast and direct, or at least it was for my weight. The softer the snow, the better, but it can handle some adversity.
What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?
It's pretty wide, and given the flex pattern, probably not the best for an intermediate. I do, however, think a lower-level advanced skier would do just fine, especially one looking to venture into the world of off-piste terrain and deeper snow. Lighter weight experts who don't need the extra vibration damping of the metal version may prefer this as well.
Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?
I genuinely don't know if I prefer this version of the Ti version. Looking forward to trying both more.
