DESCRIPTION

A poplar woodcore, full-length basalt fibers, and a freeride rocker profile come together in the Salomon QST 94, a versatile all-mountain ski with a freeride lean. The mid-nineties waist puts this ski in the sweet spot for skiers who want one tool that can handle morning groomers, midday chop, and the occasional powder stash without feeling out of place anywhere. It's a damp, composed platform that rewards skiers who like to move around the mountain rather than stay locked to the trail map.

Why we like it:

The new Cork Damplifier inlay in the tip and tail is the standout here. It quiets chatter at speed without adding mass, which is rare in a ski this width. The basalt and fiberglass weave also gives the QST 94 a smoother, more progressive flex than a lot of carbon-heavy skis in this class.

Who it's for:

Advanced and expert skiers who ride the whole mountain and want a ski that can carve a clean turn on hardpack but isn't afraid of softer snow. This is a great fit for skiers who've been on a frontside ski and want to expand into off-trail terrain without giving up on-trail composure. Solid intermediates pushing into advanced territory will get along with it too, though the QST 94 wants some skier input to come alive.

Highlights:

The QST 94 leans on a full poplar woodcore for liveliness and consistent ski-to-snow feel, paired with a full-length basalt and fiberglass layup that runs tip to tail for smooth flex and dependable edge grip. Underfoot, the ski stays connected without feeling overbuilt, and the cork inlays placed inside the rocker profile in the tip and tail are where this ski really separates from its predecessor. They dampen vibration without adding weight, so the ski feels calm at speed even though it's not a particularly heavy build. The freeride rocker profile with camber underfoot gives the ski real bite when you tip it on edge while keeping the tip floaty enough to handle variable snow. The shape has been refined for a more progressive turn entry, which makes it feel quicker than the waist width suggests.

Things to consider:

This isn't a dedicated powder ski. At 94 mm underfoot, you'll get float in moderate fresh snow but not in deep storm days; the QST 100 or 106 is the better call for skiers chasing pow. The QST 94 also rewards active skiing more than it indulges passive input, so skiers looking for a true cruiser might find it a touch demanding.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Sizes true to length. Most skiers should pick their usual size; drop a length for tighter terrain and quicker turns, bump up for more stability at speed and better float in soft snow.

A bit more rigid than I used to be but still trying to be dynamic, smooth, and fluid with varying degrees of success. Skis on the snow, these days.

Size Tested:
180 CM
Location, Terrain, Snow Conditions Notes
Skied at Stowe in a mix of firm groomers, softer snow on the sides of the trails, and some bumps.
Did this length feel short, long, or just right? Would you recommend sizing up or down, or does it ski "true to size?" Would you choose this length for yourself?
This ski feels a bit short in the 180, I'd go 188. That said, it's a lot of fun in short turns and tighter spots in the 180.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?
The QST 94 is awesome. Lots of energy, good float, very peppy, and extremely comfortable in all sorts of situations. This is one of the most versatile skis in the mid-90's range and does so with a high performance ceiling.
For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?
The QST 94 is a true all-terrain ski that excels in bumps, trees, and softer snow. It does just fine on groomers, and loves to make shorter turns but doesn't quite have the power or capacity of skis with metal.
What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?
This ski spans a bunch of different ability levels. It's easy to ski so intermediates can access it, and at the same time, it's very strong for advanced and expert skiers.
Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?
I have zero issues with this ski whatsoever. It's awesome.
