What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

Wow. Just wow. The new Montero AR Pro is the real deal. Do you need it? That's a different story. This thing absolutely rips, but it's quite stiff, so it takes some speed to come alive and it takes a strong, skilled skier to really make it sing. I actually think the Montero AR (non-Pro) is a better match for me personally. A bigger skier or someone with a more formal race background would probably go the other direction, or if you just prefer really stiff skis. The thing is a missile.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

Definitely best on groomers. While I have no problem taking the normal Montero AR off trail from time to time, the Pro version is more demanding, so will be that much more challenging in bumps, trees, soft snow, etc.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

It's truly an expert level all-mountain carver. I use the word all-mountain mostly in reference to its width, as like I said, I think it's best on trail, but its width places it in the all-mountain category for sure.

Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?

It's really fun to ski as fast as you can without worrying whether your skis can handle it, but skiing that fast all the time is also kinda tiring. The non-Pro still feels good at slower speeds, while the Pro just wants to go.

This felt pretty long because it's so stiff. I would not go shorter, but the skis definitely felt like they wanted to run in the 180.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

This new AR Pro is stiff. It has a stiffer base and stiffer sidewalls than the normal AR and it shows. When you engage the ski, it bites in and does not want to let go. If you're looking for wide and race like with a smooth character, this is the place to be, and nothing else really touches it.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

This is a groomer ski. The width may indicate that it has some versatility to it, but that's only at the end of the day when the groomers get choppy.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

We are in the expert and racer category here--it's a tough ski to handle. The metal topsheet and stiffer componentry make for a demanding ski experience.

This thing looks AMAZING. One of the best looking skis out there. A bit much for most skiers, though.

This is a damp ski. Not as playful as the AX. Super stable, quiet, ski.

All types of groomers, would be good in some crud. Very stable.

Advanced skiers that want to rip groomers all day long.

These are for advanced to expert skiers. I’d tend to say more expert skiers with the stiffness they bring.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

Stockli is a premium brand and this ski is a premium ride. While the Montero is not too demanding it does feel powerful and capable. You will get a bit more flex than a race-adjacent ski yet it has a high performance ceiling. Definitely a ski focused on carving, it also didn't hesitate busting through some looser inconsistent snow. Lots of fun to rail around and very smooth. This ski offers a great combination of energy, stability, edge grip, and vibration damping all rolled together. Easy to love and hard to fault.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

This ski is a great choice for frontside-centric all mountain skiing. It wants to be carving turns, but it will really do anything you ask it to. The tip shape is not grabby and the tail has a strong finish.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

This ski desires advanced and expert level skiing, but it would not be terribly punishing for an intermediate skier. That being said, intermediates are probably not going to notice how good this ski is compared to competitors, and it probably wouldn't be worth the outlay. If a Stockli ski is within your budget and you want something between a Laser and a Stormrider, this is the ticket.

When you sell skis that are realistically twice the price of your competitors, you have to stand up to the question, are they twice as good? A lot of brand devotees would say yes. Stockli does not only make skis for the highest level of performance, they put higher performance in the hands of more types of skiers. The Montero AR Pro logs a W.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

This felt like a precision 2x4 wrapped in rubber with metal edges. Like all Stockli's it has that magic dampness which I loved in this ski. Once you get it going it feels like it could go forever. I skied this as hard and as fast as I dared - and I dared - and it was a smooth, and stable ride all the way. However, it also felt like a one trick pony to me. For the kind of day when you want to push the outside of the envelope and trust the tool you're on to keep you safe, this ski is killer. For a day when you want a more versatile ride which offers a more playful personality, I would look elsewhere.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

Groomers and on piste. It is smooth and steady. It is supple and insatiable. Feed it fast groomer or hard pack and season it with your top speed and it will eat it up all day long.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

This ski is for advanced skiers only. It's right there in the name - Pro. It's a beefy stick that takes a lot of energy to bend and snap into submission. If you do, it rewards you, but if you let it, it will drive you.

I think this was the fastest I have ever skied, legitimately, and it felt goooooood!

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

Probably my most enjoyable carving experience to date. Full trust on the boiler plate we were skiing on, there was pretty much no loss in edge grip and I was able to go full throttle. It demanded a lot of input and good technique the entire time but was rewarded over and over. Some people will not be able to bend it and get it to do what it can do, which will make the Montero AR more suiteable instead of the AR Pro. The AR Pro is just SO smooth and predictable. I felt like I was leaving trenched train tracks the entire way down the glacier that was the mountain that day. Just insane.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

Packed powder to full boiler plate groomers.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Expert. Physically strong and technically sound experts will be able to get the most out of this ski. Less experienced skiers will full over powered.

Unbelievable. I think if you are considering this ski, you need to have a good hard think about if you need the Pro and not the regular AR. The vast majority of skiers will not be able to top out with the AR, so you need to know for certain that the AR Pro is right for you. Lemme tell ya, it's right for me.
