Even at shorter length they were so stable. I have immense trust in this ski.

I think its more geared towards groomers but its kind of quick so you could take it off trail.

Advanced skiers who prefer skiing on piste terrain.

I'm a volkl hater but this is the 1 ski I really like from them. Feels great on groomers.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

This is a real Mantra, just carvier. Really confidence inspiring. Able to change edges quickly. Adjusts well to different turn types and shapes. Really impressed.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

All mountain. Great groomer day ski, with the ability to bug out into other terrain easily.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Advanced intermediate to expert.

This ski really surprised me. I was ready to call it from the conditions, but this ski made me want to stay out longer. Very happy to see that the construction remains the same as the big brother, and this really adds a whole new level of carving to an already great ski.

Groomers and hard pack or packed powder, off piste.

Aspring intermiedate to pro. Easy to ski any size turn shape at nearly any speed. Nearing expert ability, it is great off piste due to it overall flat camber profile and ample taper. The shaping is just superior imo.

This is a boring ski that lets you choose your excitement, it only does what you want nothing more, nothing less.

Might be too stiff for an intermediate skier, and that person who might want to go down in a size, but this is not advanced or expert

The Mantra is a killer ski; fast, solid and quick. It’s stable when the conditions are firm or slick with very little vibration at high speeds. Anyone looking at this category skis has to have Mantra on their list.

Hard charging, but with lots of little breaks. I mostly chase where the snow is good and skiing is fun rather than particular terrain, although I do love a technical line. I am almost never in the park and would never touch a race course.

Great for primarily groomed trails, but any snow conditions. You don't want to take these into the woods, they like being on edge too much.

These need you to be able to carve, so advanced plus ability needed.

I loved being able to make any kind of turn with these, they’re crazy versatile on trail.

I skied on Perry Merrill and Gondolier at Stowe. The snow was machine groomed granular with pockets of packed powder. There was a half inch of fresh snow on the side of the trails and in the woods on a firm base.

The ski felt just right. It was true to size.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

This ski is a sportier and more nimble version of the Mantra 88, which was formerly the Kendo 88, but the difference is subtle.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

This ski is pretty good at truly taking on the whole mountain with a slight preference towards being on piste. The relatively narrow but not tiny 84 mm waist edges confidently into groomers, but also provides a decent floatation platform for off piste terrain.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

This ski is aimed at intermediate to expert level skiers. All Mantra skis are aimed at this population.

Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?

I was surprised to really like this ski and ALSO notice a substantial difference to the Mantra 88. I was expecting to not really detect any difference between this and the Mantra 88, but it is noticeably sportier and piste oriented. I honestly don't know why this is since the stated turning radii (there's always three on these modern Volkls--something I still don't fully understand) are all identical. Yet it felt to me like the Mantra 84 wanted to make a distinctly LONGER turn shape than the Mantra 88. It just felt a little more piste oriented, and little more interested in going faster.

These skis were perfect for the first runs on fresh, firm, and fast groomers. They’re quick edge-to-edge and allow for making aggressive turns with confidence. Yet, they’re also forgiving, with the stiff tails providing support if you get kicked back.

This ski is suitable for on piste in a variety of conditions.

I would recommend this ski to more advanced riders who are looking for a ski they can carve while still holding up in the trees.
