The 2025 Black Crows Camox Freebird is a lightweight touring ski that is the ultimate tool for finding powder or for ticking off lines that have been on your hit list for ages. Squarely in the touring category, the Camox Freebird is intended for backcountry touring and big missions where weight saving is a priority. Even as a touring specific ski, it is highly performing in all snow conditions and terrain which makes it the choice for many adventurers. Its lightweight construction and well-rounded shape make it an extremely versatile option that attracts backcountry skiers from all over the world. While not a hard charging ski, the Camox Freebird makes up for it in maneuverability, playfulness, and smoothness.

The 2025 Black Crows Camox Freebird, at the 183.4cm length, comes in at an impressive 1575 g/ski. This weight is accomplished by using a paulownia wood core that is reinforced by carbon stringers and fiberglass laminates. Paulownia is a great lightweight but stable wood core that is perfect for a big mountain touring ski such as the Camox Freebird. Energetic yet supple, the paulownia assists in making turn initiation and release easier and smoother. Carbon stringers that run the length of the ski provide longitudinal stiffness for increased edge grip on firm snow or in the steeps. Fiberglass laminates round out the construction by contributing torsional stiffness which further adds edge grip and vibration dampening properties. Underfoot, there is a titanal plate for binding retention. With a relatively low-density paulownia wood core, a titanal binding plate is a great way to provide a solid mounting location for your bindings. In the backcountry, pulling a binding out is one of the problems that is not easily solved so a binding plate makes sense for a ski like this. The low weight of the Camox Freebird is extremely advantageous when in steep terrain with tight chutes or couloirs because a low swingweight greatly assists in hop turns, tight skidded turns, as well as overall control over the movement of the skis.
The Rocker / Camber / Rocker profile of the 2025 Black Crows Camox FreebirdMoving on from construction, the Camox Freebird has a common freeride profile that includes rocker/camber/rocker which lends for a highly maneuverable ski that is comfortable in all backcountry conditions and situations. There is about 15% tip rocker, 75% camber, and 10% tail rocker which allows the skis to be nimble but precise. As for sidecut, the Camox Freebird has a forebody width of 136mm, waist width of 95mm, and a tail width of 113mm generating a 17-meter turn radius. 136mm in the tip provides a great amount of floatation in soft snow while 95mm underfoot allows you to grip onto firm snow. There is a significant tip to tail taper which helps to smooth out turn initiation and release. This is important for a ski with this application as you often find yourself in situations with tight chutes or couloirs where quick turns are necessary for a safe descent.
The Black Crows Camox Freebird is for the adventurer that is looking for a versatile, lightweight, maneuverable ski that can perform in any and all conditions. Whether that be soft powder or wind-blown firm snow, this ski thrives in it all. Thanks to a lightweight construction and freeride inspired shape, all objectives are possible and attainable. Skiers should know what they’re getting into with the Camox Freebird as there’s not a ton of resort applications here—this ski is a lot happier off the grid.
