If you’re looking for a light, quick, and easy to use all-mountain ski with modern shaping and technology, the 2027 Atomic Maverick 86 C is the place to be. Now in year two of the current design, it’s interesting to see how the 86 C stacks up against the CTi versions of the same ski. This 86 C shares the mold with the 88 CTi, but keeps the same build as it’s had in the past. This allows for a familiar feel and a progressive shape.

The use of carbon stringers allows this ski to be energetic and surprisingly grippy. This keeps the ski incredibly light and manageable for skiers who are looking for agility and pep. In the 179, this ski sits on the scale at a stated 1580 g/ski. This is quite light and also opens the door for touring and uphill activities for those so inclined. For a mid-range ski aimed at more of the intermediate crowd, there’s a lot of technology incorporated here. Tester Jeff Carpenter states that “The ski was really fun and easy to maneuver while skiing fairly slowly through soft moguls but at speed it felt a bit squirrely due to the lack of metal in its construction.” This is unsurprising, especially given Jeff’s more expert skill level, but the fun factor seems to be all there. We’ve had numerous skiers who have been on this ski tout its mogul abilities with a mix of energy and mobility.
The Rocker / Camber / Rocker profile of the 2027 Atomic Maverick 86 CThere are no big surprises here when it comes to the shape and profile of the Maverick 86 C. The footprint of the ski is the exact same as the 88 CTI and represents an equally significant change in how the ski acts and feels on snow, specifically in the turn radius and in softer snow. Jeff adds that this ski is “A great choice for moguls or skiing the trees in soft snow or for beginner/intermediate skiers looking for a lightweight, medium-width ski to advance their skills on.” With a shorter radius than most other skis in this range, it’s incredibly easy to turn, and makes bumps and quick arcs a total breeze. For skiers looking to make the most out of their ski day, whether in the bumps, trees, or groomers, the shape of this ski is up for the task at hand.
There are a ton of skiers who will ideally fit into the Atomic Maverick 86 C. It’s light, fun, and easy to ski while retaining an excellent grip on firm snow. It gives skiers a lot of confidence in this realm as it affords them the ability to make a mistake or two and not get punished as a result.
