2027 Faction Dancer 99

The 2027 Faction Dancer 99 is a new ski that makes quick work out of variable conditions and terrain, all while doing so at a lighter weight and with excellent energy. This ski is a footprint twin to the Dancer 99 Ti, but all they did was remove the metal in this version. As a result, the ski feels peppier and more agile, but the overall mass and volume of the ski keeps it smooth and steady. This is a great option for skiers who are looking to mix all-mountain and freeride without a full-on twin tip or a hefty and burly metal-clad ski.

This one is built with a poplar wood core and not much else. The skis do use Faction’s XL 2.5 mm edges which deliver better grip as there’s more metal in contact with the snow. Normally we see these wider edges on more park-oriented skis but they work quite well on the Dancer series as well. The 177 sits on the scale at 1840 g/ski so while there’s a good amount of wood here, the skis are still on the lighter side. Tester Kerry Douglas Pearce states that “The Faction Dancer 99 feels balanced and responsive, complimenting any type of turn intention without requiring a lot of force. It pivots and transitions with energy yet has enough damping to stay composed on uneven or variable terrain. The moderate tip and tail rocker with camber underfoot delivers a playful yet secure feel allowing you to drive turns without feeling dull or stiff. It absorbs and adapts smoothly and predictably, even in imperfect snow. The Faction Dancer 99 lives up to its name, moving with a natural rhythm and fluidity across varied terrain. Edge-to-edge transitions feel light and responsive, inviting you to ski dynamically rather than forcing turns. Its rocker-camber profile provides pop and absorption, while the flex keeps it composed, rewarding precise technique.”

At 99 mm underfoot, these skis are right in the sweet spot for blending all-mountain and freeride activities. The 177 uses an 18-meter turn radius and has measurements of 132/99/123 for ultimate versatility. The skis are quick as a result of the build and shape, so you can make all sorts of turn shapes and styles, from quick skids to long, drawn out carves. There’s more rocker and taper in this 99 than in the narrower skis in the Dancer line, showing its ability to be geared towards both firm and softer snow. Matt Stromecki notes their “Super versatile shape and reliable construction. They feel solid yet playful and intuitive. Although it doesn't have any metal, they carve great and torsional stiffness was surprisingly good, so carving was great. It is directional, so directional freeriders that want to also have the ability to carve, will get along nicely with this ski. Advanced to expert given the flex pattern being on the stiffer side.”

We do think there’s a nice audience here—skiers who want a wider-bodied ski with a mixed personality will thoroughly enjoy the Dancer 99. With great energy and versatility, these skis will speak to a broad group of skiers. Those who enjoy bumps and trees will like the soft snow compliance and drifty feel while others who spend most of their time in an on-trail format will appreciate their quickness and pop.
