2027 Head Super Joy

The 2027 Head Super Joy is a carryover model for this year featuring the same construction, shape, and graphics as last year. A wider-bodied frontside option, with on-piste-inspired technology and a high level of performance, skiers who want versatility and competitive carving capabilities will love the Super Joy’s blend of characteristics. Carving clean, round turns, this smoother operator has become a go-to on-piste option for those who value predictability and precision in an accessible package. With a balanced feel and confidence to spare, this is a sweet ski that allows skiers to be confident and composed in a shorter carved turn.

Head uses quite a bit of sophistication and engineering in their construction here. Built with a light wood core that uses light and energetic karuba, the Super Joy benefits from a harmonious blend of attributes. Head goes on to add carbon laminates to the top and bottom of the ski, significantly enhancing the amount of stiffness without adding weight. On top of the wood core, we get another graphene strip to accomplish further stiffness and additional feedback. For a ski without metal, the Super Joy delivers a nice amount of precision and grip, which we have the carbon to thank for. This construction approach is hugely successful in that it packs a good amount of punch without feeling overly demanding. This is a very easy ski to turn. Tester Jana Ross notes that "This ski would be perfect for intermediate skier women. Very easy to turn and maneuver. Easy ski to run around your kids when you teach them to ski."

The footprint of the ski is definitely more on-piste focused, but there's some wiggle room here. From a shaping perspective, we see a slightly different style than most dedicated front side skis. With a rounder tip and slightly more taper, this shape veers away from the more squared-off, angular shape and more in the direction of versatile performance. At 75 mm underfoot, it lands itself in the wider-bodied frontside category, though its narrow tail and 14-meter turn radius keeps it more on-piste focused than all-mountain. Providing a stable and balanced platform, a wider audience of skiers can access the level of performance, including progressing intermediates looking to enhance their technique. Sure, there are narrower and wider skis out there in this category, but it’s safe to say the Super Joy encompasses the benefits of both, providing a proper level of torsional stiffness in a friendlier format. While it is a friendly ski, there’s some high end feel to it as well with the energy. Deb Dennison notes that the "Ski is very light and easy to maneuver. Smooth turn initiation but a bit sluggish on the exit. Doesn’t have a lot of pop. Lacked strong edge grip for the end of day conditions."
