2027 Salomon Stance Pro 82

For 2027, the Salomon Stance Pro 82 is a carryover ski with the same build, shape, profile, and graphics as last year. Featuring a different build and shape than the existing Stance Pro series of skis, most notably the similarly wide 84, the Pro 82 is crisp, fast, and engaging on groomers for intermediate through expert skiers. There’s a noticeable lack of all-mountain skis in this width range in the industry today, and seeing a company like Salomon stand up, take notice, and build a real ski here is a huge benefit to the community. As a result, it can vary between strong carved turns on-trail and fun bump skiing and cruddy snow off-trail. While nobody’s going to mistake this for a powder ski, it certainly has the Stance influence that allows it to be at least competent in deeper snow. That traditional shape and style goes a long way with a more romantic audience.

As an all-mountain ski, it needs some good oomph to stand on. The Stance Pro 82 is built with a full poplar wood core and a partial metal laminate. Salomon calls it Powerflex Ti, and it helps to keep the central portion of the ski strong and engaged in the turn. The metal is wider along the central part of the ski and narrower along the sides. It’s split in the middle to keep the torsional flex fully engaged. They also use a wider steel edge for increased grip and traction as well as durability and longevity between tunes. Salomon lists the Stance Pro 82 as having a stated weight of 1690 g/ski in the 177 but it feels denser than that. Tester Josh Matta states that “This ski ripped a medium radius carve very well, it also does performance and steered shorts great, and I think the shape with how much taper it has would be good for packed down bumps and trees. The ski does not like to be run flat and fast, which is fine because carving is more fun. I suspect a lot of people who heel push or ski lateral will not like this ski. It also does slow speed, instructor style skiing very nicely.”

At 82 mm underfoot, this ski skirts the line between front side and all-mountain. Since it’s part of a wider all-mountain series, it’s probably more accurate to call it an all-mountain ski that just so happens to carve extremely well. There are wider front side skis out there in the world, but the shape and style of the Stance Pro 82 puts it in more of a versatile category. This ski uses measurements of 125/82/107 to generate a 15-meter turn radius in the 177, making it a crisp and clean carver since it is also on the stiffer side. Salomon adds rocker to the tips and tails, but not a whole lot. It’s relatively straight and flat leading it to have more of that all-mountain character, but not a whole lot of playfulness. Tester Steve Buccini notes that it felt like “A stiffer and more aggressive ski when compared to the Stance 84 R. This ski is more suited for frontside skiers who stick to marked trails. The Stance Pros are a versatile frontside ski that are enjoyable whether you’re skiing with the whole family or sneaking off to take a lap on the Front Four.”

We find this ski to be both unique and traditional. The Stance Pro 82 is a sharp ski that can toe the line of front side and all-mountain, so it’ll open up some boundaries. It’s a strong ski, and can be used by advanced and expert skiers, but it’s also on the narrower side, so intermediates looking for a steady ski will be more than happy with the agility and mobility of this ski. This is especially helpful if you’re not looking for a full-on frontside shape that is angular and sharp. The Stance Pro 82, despite being stiffer and stronger, is also rounder than a lot of skis out there, making it a good option for progressing skiers. It’s quick enough for short turns but stable for longer arcs, so there’s a lot of potential for turn versatility here.
