2025 Men's Powder Ski Comparison
If you happen to find yourself in conditions and terrain that necessitate one of the following skis, consider yourself fortunate. Powder is the skier’s dream, and these are the right tools for the job. Like the singular nature that we see in the narrow frontside category, these boats don’t have a whole lot of versatility. What they do have is the proper ingredients for pure flotation and freeride fun. With skis ranging in width from 114 mm to 121, there’s a powder ski here for the purists, enthusiasts, and adventure skiers who seek out the steep and deep. With a variety of shapes and styles, it’s interesting to see how different companies go about making their fatties. There’s also several pro models and athlete-inspired skis here to stoke the flame of enthusiasm when it comes to tackling fresh, big, and distant mountain peaks.

2025 Nordica Unleashed 114 Skis

| AVAILABLE SIZES | TURN RADIUS | SIDECUT | WEIGHT | STRENGTHS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 174, 180, 186, 191 cm | 19.4 m @ 180 cm | 145.5 / 114 / 134.5 mm | 2,000 g @ 180 cm | Carving, Stability, Power |
Overview:
Built with a lite performance wood core, the Nordica Unleashed 114 is a wide-bodied twin tip that is equally at home charging Freeride World Tour events as it is ripping down natural features in the resort. With a thinner core profile than the narrower 108, this 114 is actually a bit lighter, but the overall volume of the ski makes it feel sturdy and powerful on the feet. Like the other skis in the Unleashed zone, the 114 is an uncommonly good turner and carver. While not many skiers are out there shopping for 114’s as a carving or on-trail ski, it’s tough to deny this ski’s strength in that arena. The 186 hits 20.4 meters in the arc, but it feels turnier than that because you can flex it relatively easily. We get Terrain Specific metal here, too, so full length tip to tail but narrower in the forebody and through the aft portion of the ski. This allows for smoothness and power but keeps the sides of the skis amenable for soft snow playfulness.
Who it's For:
Strong and capable skiers who like a longer camber profile will love the effective edge smoothness of the Unleashed 114. If you’re looking for a fat twin that carves, this is the place to be.

Overview:
Reckoner skis from K2 have always been super-fun, surfy, and awesome twin tips for creative skiers who like to push the limits of what is possible in the freestyle powder world. We see a lot of pro models in this range, and this one comes from Karl Fostvedt and his ability to turn a big mountain face into a terrain park. With symmetrical-ish dimensions of 137/114/124, these twins are built for balance and flair. The interesting thing about the build is that it pairs an aspen wood core with carbon spectral braid, uni-directional flax, and a carbon braided core. Even with all of this additive material, the skis are still on the flexible and playful side. As we’d expect from a ski like this, rocker and taper are big parts of the story as the skis are progressive and modern in all facets of shaping principles.
Who it's For:
Fans of Karl and those who aspire to ski like him. If you like wide, symmetrical skis, this is the place to be.

2025 Volkl Revolt 114 Skis

Overview:
In the world of Revolt, the 114 is kind on an outlier. While twin tips dominate the discussion in Revolt land, the 114 is more of a directional charger. Even though it splits the difference in width between the 104 and the 121, the 114 is not so playful in a freestyle sense. Construction-wise, there’s not a lot of fancy stuff going on here, it’s really just a multi-layer wood core, but a thick one. It’s in the shape and the weight that this ski starts to separate. In the 184, we’re on the scale at 2315 grams, which is a lot. It feels like a lot on the feet, and if you get it in tighter or more technical zones, it can be a handful. That said, in wider spaces and at higher speeds, the Revolt 114 really starts to plane out and make a lot of sense. This ski also benefits from a flatter tail for more directional performance, and Volkl’s 3D Radius Sidecut consisting of a 24.6m arc in the tip, a 19m mid zone, and a 22.4m curve in the tail. This allows for straight-shooting down some high-end zones.
Who it's For:
Pro skiers, kinda. This is not terribly user friendly or versatile. It’s got a singular notion and that’s going fast in open areas.

Overview:
With a new graphic for 2025, the Volkl Blaze 114 continues as the widest and most powder-oriented of the Blaze series. Built with a light multi-layer wood core featuring Green Core technology, these skis have a lot of sophistication and mobility built right in. The PET strips in the core reduce the carbon footprint but keep the performance at a high level. We also get suspension tips and tails to reduce vibrations and a titanal binding platform. This metal does help keep the ski grippy and smooth while assisting with binding retention. Volkl includes a gigantic tip width of 154 mm to go along with a 114 mm waist and a 136 mm tail. Volkl’s 3D Radius sidecut and flatter overall profile come in handy here as the ski’s flotation is based largely off of that flat shape. In the 184, the ski sits on the scale at 1945 grams per ski and has a triple radius of 39m in the tip, 18m in the middle, and 29m in the tail. This allows skiers to get more stability and smoothness at higher speeds while keeping mobility and precision in the underfoot zone.
Who it's For:
Versatile skiers who like a lighter ski for in and out of bounds skiing. You value Volkl’s sophistication and engineering in a lighter weight package.

Overview:
As far as big, wide, and sturdy twin tips go, the Black Crows Anima stays right at the top. These skis have a lot of power to them, but at the same time, they retain playfulness, creativity, and mobility for advanced and expert skiers who like to charge. We get a new graphic for 2025, but the ski returns structurally unchanged. There’s some heft here for sure, with the 189 tipping the scale at 2375 grams per ski. Thanks to a poplar wood core with carbon and kevlar tape running through the center, the Animal has a stiff flex and a smooth feel. Like most Black Crows skis, they play around with the cap and sidewall blend to achieve a certain effect. In the case of the Anima, the semi-cap construction keeps the ski mobile and amenable to soft snow while the sidewalls grip tight to firmer snow. As good as this ski floats, it’s also quite impressive on firmer snow and hard pack.
Who it's For:
Aggressive and creative skiers who like to carve, charge, float, and plow. These skis aren’t really light weight dancers, rather they suit skiers who are more fall-line oriented.

2025 Atomic Maverick 115 CTI Skis

Overview:
As a new ski for 2025, the Atomic Maverick 115 CTi brings a more powerful and directional character into the powder ski world. Built with a blend of poplar and ash, the 115 CTi gets a sturdy start. They then add metal underfoot and carbon stringers that run vertically through the ski. This stiffens the flex and keeps the central portion of the ski strong and grippy in more technical zones and in adverse conditions. This new build, combined with the overall volume of the ski, makes it a bit heavier, weighing over 2100 grams per ski in the 193. Still, given the HRZN Tech 3D in the tip and the flatter tail, the skis are easy to maneuver and stable through crud and chop as well as buoyant in the fresh and deep. While other skis with more dramatic rocker profiles and taper shapes will be more creative and playful in those conditions, the Maverick 115 CTi has a corner on the more directional and precise side of the spectrum.
Who it's For:
Directional skiers who are looking to take a straighter and more aggressive line down the mountain. You want flotation, but you also want to point it.

Overview:
By following along with the rest of the new ARV line, the 116 JJ keeps it more classic and traditional with a playful shape, a lighter weight, and a totally surfy character. While most skis in this range will have some sort of twin-tip playfulness, the ARV keeps it more freestyle oriented and creative. There’s good energy here as well, with a caruba core and laminate matrix to keep the liveliness intact. At the same time, the 185 hits a stated 1725 grams on the scale, keeping touring and backcountry access firmly at the forefront of the conversation. They’re also very flexible and bendy, allowing for playfulness and ease of use for aspiring freeride skiers who don’t want to work too hard to get amazingly fun performance. We also still get smeartech—a curving of the tips and tails to get more smoothness, which is pretty sweet because it’s a holdover tech from older ARV skis that we don’t see much anymore.
Who it's For:
Fun and swervy skiers who like to throw them sideways in the pow. You also want freestyle capabilities for maximum fun.

Overview:
As another athlete-inspired ski, the Head Oblivion 116 comes from Cole Richardson’s incredible ability to blend big mountain and freestyle skiing. With a graphic update for 2025, the ski retains its light yet stiff character. It’s also straight as an arrow. In the 189 cm length, the ski hits an awesome 30.8-meters in the turn radius. This, combined with a relatively flat profile with a lot of tip and tail rocker, makes for a super-smeary and drifty ski that’s incredibly simple to throw sideways. Built with a poplar wood core that has a strip of recycled PET material in the spine, the ski also gets eco-conscious on the way to big mountain domination. Additionally, carbon laminates on the top and bottom deliver the power, grip, and energy to the ski.
Who it's For:
Fans of sideways skiing, slashing, and drifting will love the energy and predictability of the Oblivion 116.

Overview:
The Salomon QST X is the widest ski in Salomon’s line, bringing a lighter weight attitude to an energetic and sophisticated construction. Built with a poplar and caruba wood core, the ski also gets a carbon/flax strip, cork in the tips and tails, and recycled sidewalls for an eco-friendly boost. In the 184, the skis hit the scale at 1900 grams, so keeping something like this under 2000 grams is pretty impressive. With dimensions of 140/116/127, the long 25-meter turn radius is incredibly fun and smooth. While carved turns won’t be a strength to point to here, the longer arcs and sideways capabilities are certainly top notch in this category. We also get long rocker in the tips and tails with a flatter camber profile underfoot. This only adds to the drifty and surfy nature of the ski. As a lighter ski in this zone, we see quite a few skiers putting a touring or hybrid binding on it to maximize the powder potential.
Who it's For:
A wide range of powder seekers will love the new QST X. Whether you’re touring or resort-bound, the X will stand up to aggressive and playful skiing at the same time.

Overview:
This past season, we finally got to spend some quality powder time on the K2 Mindbender 116 C, and it was awesome. On day three of our ski test, the snow continued to pile up and the winds kicked in. Here in Vermont, when the wind roars through the trees, it delivers some serious drifts. The Mindbender, a more directional powder ski, with carbon spectral braid, uni-directional flax, and a light aspen wood core, was able to plow through and stay on top of wind-affected snow with ease and aplomb. The best part is that the rocker allowed it to be so incredibly mobile and maneuverable in those tighter zones. Despite the slightly heavier weight of 2325 grams in the 187, the ski feels agile and fun in various conditions and terrain. That length also produces a 22.5-meter turn radius, good for mixing turn shapes and styles, from drifty smears to long, drawn-out carves.
Who it's For:
Playful and directional skiers who are more traditional in nature will love the Mindbender 116. It’s totally manageable and fun without having to work too hard.

Overview:
With a TON of rocker, sharp tips, and a flatter underfoot zone, the Whitewalker 116 is a signature ski within Armada’s line. This thing floats on anything, and if you need floatier, you may be out of luck. The ski is also relatively light and somewhat stiff, with an 1800-gram weight in the 185 cm length. Based on Sammy Carlson’s preference and style, the Whitewalker is supposed to be found in, and used, in the deepest and most playful zones possible. With fresh pillows and wide-open bowls in mind, we’re looking at a ski that seamlessly blends powder flotation and creative freestyle components. Flatter zones underfoot and Smear Tech in the tips and tails adds to the progressive and modern look in these skis. There’s an 18-meter turn radius, but not a huge difference in tip and tail width, adding to the symmetrical and freestyle-oriented shape and style.

Big mountain freestyle enthusiasts who are looking to stay on top of the snow in the most creative way possible.

Overview:
Wide, surfy, and floaty, the Fischer Ranger 116 loves to stay on top of any depth of snow, making easy work of deep powder and big mountain lines. Built with a blend of beech and poplar in the wood core, the skis also get a shaped Ti laminate that’s found mainly in the underfoot zone. Narrower Rangers have longer metal, but the 116’s is pretty short and focused in the midbody of the ski for damping and grip in technical zones. With progressive rocker in both the tips and the tails, this directional freeride ski is built and shaped to handle fresh snow at best and crud and chop at worst. In the 187 cm length, the ski produces a 20-meter turn radius and sits on the scale at 2150 grams per ski. This allows the Ranger to be used both aggressively and moderately, balancing a wide range of skiers and skier types.
Who it's For:
A lot of powder enthusiasts will find a home on the Ranger 116. There’s nothing supremely burly about it, nor is there anything incredibly easy. It’s a great mid-range powder ski for directional skiers looking for float.

Overview:
As one of the more classic skis on this wall when it comes to heritage, the DPS Lotus 117 is also considerably ahead of its time. Somehow, this ski manages to be traditional and yet progressive at the same time. Built with horizontal wood laminates consisting of poplar on the top and ash on the bottom, we also get two full sheets of carbon on top of and below the cores. This makes for an extremely stiff, light, and responsive build. When you add the shape and profile to the conversation, however, the ski gets a lot more interesting. While the 185 sits on the scale at 1950 grams, the feel is a lot more substantial. Boasting measurements of 140/117/127, the Lotus 117 stands on a 55% camber and 45% rocker profile. This ski is very bent. The stats lead to a 21-meter turn radius, which is on the long side for DPS but is right in the sweet spot for most skis on this list.
Who it's For:
Precision-oriented powder skiers that have an extra buck or two to spend for it. You want a classic style and a top-end build, and you do not want to sink in deep snow.

Overview:
We get a few tweaks for this ski in 2025, in addition to a graphic update, making the Sender Free 118 a great choice for powerful and playful skiers who are looking for a big fat twin tip. Built with a poplar wood core, diago fiber (carbon and kevlar) to stiffen the torsional rigidity, and new Air Tip technology for lighter swing weight, the Sender Free 118 is a burly ski that ends up being smooth and surfy in a varieity of conditions and terrain. You do pay for it in weight, despite the Air Tip, as the 186 sits on the scale at 2500 grams per ski. We also see a long 25-meter turn radius in that length, allowing for smeary and surfy skiing in deep snow and direct fall-line charging in crud and chop. This Sender Free 118 feels more at home in the steep and deep, although we certainly have had fun on it here in the VT trees, as the ski is more mobile than the weight may let on.

Overview:
We got some updates to the Bent Chetler 120 for 2025, and it adds up to a slightly stronger ski with a smoother and more stable character. There’s a bit of a weight addition here, but since it was never really that heavy before, the move makes sense, especially for skiers who are looking for a bit more oomph and pep. The tip and tail rocker profile on this ski is quite dramatic, and even more so when it comes to the camber underfoot. There’s a lot of springiness here as a result of the profile, and the ski gets a bit floatier as well with the new HRZN tech in the tips and tails. We do lose the carbon backbone, but replace that pep with a woodier and more silent feel. BC 120 purists may feel a bit left out but overall, it seems to make a lot of sense for more aggressive or harder charging skiers, not like Chris Benchetler isn’t one of those.
Who it's For:
Similar to Sammy’s Whitewalker, the Bent Chetler 120 is the brainchild of a modern day professional and creative skier. If your interests and style aligns with that, then you’re in luck.

Overview:
With a singular use in mind, the Volkl Revolt 121 is a supremely capable ski in the deepest snow and the biggest lines on the planet. Built simply with a thick multi-layer wood core, the Revolt 121 hits 2320 grams per ski in the 184 cm length. That’s a lot of ski. And then there’s the rocker profile and taper shape. This ski has a ton of drama and flair when it comes to profile. While there’s camber underfoot, it’s difficult to ignore the crazy amount of bend and curve in the tips and the tails. This makes for poppy, surfy, and smeary skiing regardless of snow depth. While Volkl uses a 3D Radius Sidecut in this ski, it’s not as noticeable or dramatic as found in some other skis, mainly due to the profile. Generally, we’re seeing a 20-meter turn radius in the 184. If you get a Revolt 121, chances are you’ll never need another powder specific ski ever again.
Who it's For:
Professional skiers, big mountain competitors, and powder purists will find a lot to like here. If you’re not a skier as listed above, the Revolt 121 is a challenge.
