DESCRIPTION

As the narrowest of the Ripstick W’s, the Ripstick 88 offers ladies who like to spend time on piste and quick and responsive ski with the width and nimbleness to venture off trail when they’re feeling intrepid. The Ripstick 88 W has the shortest turning radius of the bunch, and therefore wants to make short, fast turns; coupled with Elan’s Carbon Rod technology, you get a grippy ski that carves beautifully on hard snow, and is energetic and nimble in the bumps and trees.

Why we like it:

The Ripstick 88 W is an energetic, precise groomer ski that is great on trail but has the versatility to rip the whole mountain, making it a favorite especially here in the East.

Who it's for:

On piste skiers who like to make lots of quick turns will love the Ripstick 88 W’s short radius and energetic feel, and those who don’t want to be limited by terrain will appreciate the versatility of this ski to to venture beyond the groomers. Advancing intermediates especially will find that the Ripstick 88 W is friendly enough to feel accessible to them, but will continue to perform as they hone their skills into those of an advanced or expert skier.

Highlights:

The lightweight, energetic feel of the Ripstick 88 W is something that really makes this ski stand out within its category. Elan boosts the Ripstick’s energy by adding three-dimensional Carbon Rods that run the length of the ski. When you load the ski through the turn, these rods bend and then rebound, providing impressive energy as you exit the turn for a poppy and lively feel that will put a smile on your face.

Things to consider:

If you find yourself off trail more often than not, you may have more fun on something a little wider than the 88W. Additionally, strong, aggressive, or heavier skiers may find the Ripstick 88 W is not quite robust enough for their liking and would do better to check out a ski with metal in it.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Skis true to size.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?
Took a little time for me to warm up adjusting to the inside specific L and R edges. The ski grew on me as I learned what the ski could do for me on the snow.
For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?
Groomed, light snow.
What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?
Beginner to intermediate. These have L and R specific skis. Perfect for someone at these levels in learning to feel the ski through turns on the snow.
If you could change anything about these skis, what would you change and why?
Wouldn’t change anything. This is a great ski for an lower level skier as it provides nice assistance with inside pressure in the turns.
