DESCRIPTION

The 2027 DPS Pisteworks 79 is a precision frontside tool built for skiers who love to carve deep trenches into early morning groomers. As the narrowest and most turn-focused ski in DPS’s Pisteworks line, it’s all about quickness, control, and smooth, high-energy edge transitions on firm snow.

Why we like it:

This is a carbon-driven carving ski with a tight turn radius and plenty of finesse. It’s refreshingly agile and responsive without relying on brute stiffness, which makes it fun and engaging from edge to edge.

Who it's for:

Best suited for advanced to expert skiers or technical intermediates who want a super-reactive ski for hard snow and corduroy. Especially appealing for former racers or frontside purists who don’t need off-piste versatility.

Highlights:

With a 79 mm waist and a 13.5-meter turn radius across all lengths, the Pisteworks 79 thrives in short turns and edge-intensive skiing. It’s built with a full carbon layup and a recycled Carbon Power Plate for energy and control without adding bulk or plankiness. The low rocker profile (just 20%) keeps nearly 80% of the edge in contact with the snow for maximum grip and engagement, while the ski’s compliant flex provides lively rebound without feeling punishing.

Things to consider:

This ski is designed specifically for groomers; those looking for all-mountain range or soft snow capability will want something with more width and rocker. It’s also best for skiers who are comfortable on their edges and prefer a technical ride over a forgiving one. If you are looking for top notch high speed stability and dampness, the light weight and supple flex of this ski will be easily overpowered.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Skis true to size. Most skiers should select their typical frontside ski length, though sizing down slightly can enhance turn initiation and make things even snappier for lighter or finesse-driven skiers.

While its hard to say any ski justifies the cost of an NYC 2-bedroom condo, if anything does it would be these.

Hard charging, but with lots of little breaks. I mostly chase where the snow is good and skiing is fun rather than particular terrain, although I do love a technical line. I am almost never in the park and would never touch a race course.

Did this length feel short, long, or just right? Would you recommend sizing up or down, or does it ski "true to size?" Would you choose this length for yourself?
This skis true to length, if not a bit long. It's the rare ski that sizing down a bit wasn’t an issue for me.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?
These are a true, any speed, frontside ski. Easygoing while still able to open up without any trouble. They don’t even mind being in the air.
For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?
With the narrow underfoot waist I would keep these on-piste, but they can handle some variability in snow conditions. Packing no metal, their bite on ice is not top-tier, but still better than most and with any softness they feel incredible.
What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?
Despite their frontside nature, I think anybody intermediate and up could ski these and love them, including aggressive-skiing experts. It’s somehow both precise and forgiving at the same time.
Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?
While its hard to say any ski justifies the cost of an NYC 2-bedroom condo, if anything does it would be these. Truly as close to a “does everything well” ski as I’ve skied on a frontside carver.
