DESCRIPTION

The 2027 DPS Pisteworks 79 is a full-carbon frontside carver, the narrowest and most edge-focused ski in DPS's reborn carving line. It's purpose-built for hard snow, with high effective edge, a relatively short turn radius, and a construction philosophy that doubles down on carbon's signature snap and energy.

Why we like it:

DPS calls it their version of power steering, and that's a fitting description. There's a directness to how this ski transmits inputs that feels different from anything else on the hill, especially for a sub-80 carver.

Who it's for:

Advanced and expert frontside skiers who live for edge engagement and want a precision tool for groomed terrain. Best suited to skiers who appreciate the unique character of carbon and want a ski that feels electric without being punishing.

Highlights:

The build here starts with full carbon laminates on the top and bottom of the patented Dual Layer Wood Core, which mixes poplar (for liveliness) with red oak (for damping and grip), which is a swap from the poplar-and-ash core of the prior version and a meaningful change in feel. Underfoot, the Carbon Power Plate acts as a focused energy channel, addining a precise yet intuitive feel to steering. Rockwell 48 steel edges and a World Cup Race Base with factory-applied Phantom Glide treatment round out the build, so this thing is set up to hold an edge and run fast. The shape is no-nonsense for a carver, with moderate effective edge, just enough rocker to keep the tip from hooking, and a short turn radius that wants to flip from edge to edge.

Things to consider:

This is a dedicated carver. With a narrow waist and minimal rocker, it's not going to be your friend in soft snow or chop. It's also a precision instrument that asks for input, so easygoing skiers may find it more demanding than they want.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Skis true to size. If you're between sizes and prioritize quickness, size down. If you want a touch more stability at speed, size up.
