2027 Black Crows Camox Freebird Skis W/ Skins Set
SKU 102622The 2027 Black Crows Camox Freebird is the fifth iteration of the ski, a versatile mid-fat touring ski that's been completely modernized for this season. With a refined tip, a wider waist, an 18-meter turn radius, a new climbing skin system, and a 10% weight reduction, it's more dynamic and capable than ever. Includes a matched set of Black Crows Pilus skins.
Why we like it:
The Camox Freebird has always been the friendliest ski in the Freebird line, and the 2027 version sharpens that personality. The tighter sidecut makes it noticeably more dynamic during weight transfers, and it feels more reactive edge to edge than the version it replaces, all while shedding meaningful weight on the climb.
Who it's for:
Intermediate through expert touring skiers who want a versatile, accessible mid-fat touring ski. A great fit for skiers building backcountry skills, all-around tourers who want one ski for everything from spring corn to mid-winter powder, and anyone who prioritizes a manageable, playful ride over maximum charging power.
Highlights:
Construction is where the Camox Freebird earns its weight savings. The core is full paulownia, which is the lightest wood in Black Crows' touring quiver, and it's reinforced with a mix of carbon and fiberglass laminates that add torsional stiffness without adding grams. A titanal plate under the binding zone gives the ski the binding retention and stability it needs to handle hybrid touring bindings safely. Construction is semi-cap with ABS sidewalls underfoot and a partial cap up front for additional weight savings. Profile-wise, the ski runs progressive front rocker paired with an early-rise tail for pivot control and float in soft snow, and a classic medium camber underfoot keeps the edge engaged on harder skin tracks and firmer descents. The new wider waist and shorter, more responsive sidecut radius dial up the maneuverability without giving up much in the way of stability. The included Pilus skins are sized exactly for the Camox Freebird, so the package is ready to climb out of the box.
Things to consider:
The Camox Freebird is built around accessibility and weight savings, not maximum descent performance. Skiers who want a stouter, more chargeable touring ski for committed big-mountain lines should look at the Navis Freebird or Corvus Freebird instead.
Fit & sizing considerations:
Skis true to length. Pick the size that matches your usual touring length, or size down if you want a more playful, maneuverable ride.
