2027 Kastle Legend 1956 Skis
SKU AL5621The Kastle Legend 1956 is a hand-built all-around frontside ski from Kastle's Legendary Collection. A lightweight karuba wood core, two layers of titanal, and the unique Double Steel Edge integrated into the topsheet deliver classic carving manners and a level of craftsmanship you can feel under your feet.
Why we like it:
The same Double Steel Edge that makes the Wedler special shows up here too, with the second edge integrated into the topsheet for impact protection and durability. It's a detail that no one else in skiing offers, and it's part of what makes the Legendary Collection legitimately one of a kind.
Who it's for:
Advanced and expert skiers who want a versatile frontside-leaning ski with real heritage and craftsmanship. The 83mm waist makes it more flexible than the narrower Wedler, so a wider range of conditions are in play.
Highlights:
Like the Wedler, the Legend 1956 is hand-pressed in Kastle's Hohenems workshop with 30 individual parts per ski. The wider 83mm waist changes the personality compared to the Wedler. With more surface area, the 1956 handles softer snow and chopped-up afternoons more comfortably while keeping the same on-trail precision. The construction stack is identical: Karuba Woodcore for lightness and pop, Double Titanal for damping and edge grip, Full Race Sidewall for direct power transmission, and Hollowtech 2.0 Carbon in the shovel for both visual signature and weight reduction. The Double Steel Edge in the topsheet is the standout craft feature, and it gives this ski genuine durability at the topsheet edges where most skis get beaten up first. With a 16.3-meter radius at the 173cm length, the 1956 has a longer turn shape than the Wedler, which fits the wider waist. It's a more all-around ski that still has frontside DNA, and it rewards skiers who want to take this kind of craftsmanship onto a wider variety of terrain.
Things to consider:
Like the Wedler, this is a hand-built ski produced in limited numbers, so availability is constrained. The full camber profile and 83mm waist also mean it's not a true all-mountain ski; it's a frontside-leaning ski with all-mountain-width tolerance. Deeper conditions and steep variable terrain are better served by the Sublime or Transcend lines.
Fit & sizing considerations:
True to length. Most skiers will land happily on their usual size. Skiers who want a snappier, quicker ride can drop a length; those who want more stability at speed can size up.
