2027 Line Sakana Skis
The 2027 Line Sakana with Tyrolia Attack 14 GW Bindings is the original carve-weird, slash-happy ski, returning rebuilt for freestyle abuse. A paulownia and maple core, swallowtail shape, and Carbon Flax Tape reinforcement combine for a ski that carves like a knife and slashes like a snowboard, now with the durability to handle rails, jibs, and switch landings. We paired the Sakana with the Tyrolia Attack 14 GW because of the Attack’s light weight, reliability, and ease-of-use for all mountain and freeride skiers. Additionally, ample elastic travel and direct power transmission function to ensure these bindings cater perfectly to the needs of demanding freeriders.
Why we like it:
This generation keeps the original's swallowtail soul and adds Thick-Cut Sidewalls, Bio-Resin, and Thin Tips for genuine freestyle durability. Same surfy carving feel, far more abuse tolerance.
Who it's for:
Advanced and expert skiers who want a unique carving experience and are not put off by an unusual shape. Particularly suited to skiers who like to mix carving with creative slashes and switch riding.
Highlights:
The big shape feature is the swallowtail: removing surface area from the tail lets the ski release out of carves quickly and feel shorter on firm snow than its dimensions imply. Carbon Flax Tape adds reinforcement without the harsh feel of pure carbon, which is part of where the Sakana gets its smooth on-edge character, and the paulownia and maple core keeps things light enough to be quick on edge yet stiff enough for higher speeds. Rocker is unique to this ski, with significant rise up front and none at all in the tail, and combined with the swallowtail that is what produces the carve-weird personality. A 105 mm waist skis like a much narrower carver while still floating well once the snow softens. With a low stand height of just 17 millimeters, the 2027 Tyrolia Attack 14 offers an impressively close connection to the snow, delivering precise power transmission and a confident, locked-in feel. The FR Pro3 toe piece allows for a full 180 degrees of boot release, enhancing safety in a variety of fall scenarios, while the AFS (Anti-Friction Slider) ensures reliable re-centering and consistent release characteristics. Built to withstand hard use, the Attack 14 combines durability with performance, making it a go-to option for aggressive skiers who demand trust in their gear.
Things to consider:
The swallowtail design is polarizing. Skiers who want a traditional twin tip or a standard freeride shape may find this too unusual, and with no tail rocker at all, switch riding takes more deliberate technique than on a true twin tip.
Fit & sizing considerations:
This one sizes long thanks to the swallowtail, and since the effective edge is shorter than the overall length most skiers will be happy on their usual size or even a length down for tighter terrain.
