The 2021 Dynastar Speedzone 4x4 82 returns unchanged, and is looking forward to another successful campaign as a versatile front-side ski that has a lot of different strengths and very few weaknesses. By borrowing technology from the previous Legend and current M-Pro line, the 4x4 82 has a paulownia wood core bolstered by their polyurethane (PU) material. While the bulk of the core is wood, that PU material is really starting to encroach into the middle of the ski. This is a good thing, we've found, and it works quite effectively at damping vibrations and keeping the ski smooth and stable. Additionally, they bulk up the top parts of the skis with additional material and leave some thinner portions in the tip and tail. This makes for an easy entry into the turn and a playful exit, all the while retaining incredibly strong and stable edge grip underfoot. The shaping of this 3D profile makes a lot of sense in terms of making the 82 a more versatile ski. If it were all the same material, the ski would be blocky and planky. With the difference in core thickness, Dynastar is able to unlock and open up the ski's build to accommodate different terrain and snow conditions. In the 179, we're getting a 16-meter turn radius, so this thing prefers that short to medium sized arc. For mostly front side skiing, this is a very good thing. Our testers were all pretty stoked on the smoothness and stability of the skis, and it shows in their scores and comments.

Ryan Daniel is a very accomplished carver so seeing him on a ski like this is certainly a treat. He gave 5's for stability, torsional stiffness, and edge hold. He even went so far as to put a couple of exclamation points after the 5 in stability!!! While he skied the 179, but would likely opt for the 185 if given the choice. "Full-on short radius GS ski. Wants everything you want to give it and likes it. I tested it on wide-open groomer and it loved all of it. I recommend this for the person that likes a stiff GS radius ski and that person must like to go fast." He ends by noting that the ski was well-tuned and had "good edge hold." Always nice to get on a properly tuned ski.
On that 185, Marcus Shakun had similar high scores, just one number lower. 4's out of 5 for stability, torsional stiffness, and edge hold reinforce the skis's strong build and tight grip. Marcus notes it's best for an "advanced expert that skis strong and aggressive. This ski needs a strong skier to appreciate as it's stiffer in the tail with a softer shovel. Smooth entry into the turn and snaps you out of the turn into the next. Hard to go from long turns into medium-radius. You have to slow down to get the right rhythm." And again, he hammers home the point that the "negative is it really is for stronger skiers." Be warned! It's not the worst thing in the world that a ski has a high-end, but it is nice when the range is a bit bigger. Oh well, can't have it all!
A fantastic front side ski for advanced and expert skiers, the Dynastar Speedzone 4x4 82 is an awesome choice. Fast, fun, and fearless, the 4x4 82 has a carving personality for sure, but shouldn't be overlooked as a versatile ski for all-mountain adventure.
