2027 Blizzard Anomaly 84

The 2027 Blizzard Anomaly 84 returns with a new graphic but is otherwise unchanged. This narrow-bodied all-mountain ski is fairly unique in the ski world today as it’s born from a wider, more freeride-oriented line with a shape that borders on wide frontside. This ski is solid, stable, and secure, but it’s also pretty demanding—at least to get the most out of it. The Anomaly 84 makes quick work out of groomers and does a great job at moving through bumps, trees, and other variable conditions and terrain. The thing it has going for it more than a ski like the wider 88 is its ability to be quick from edge to edge and a bit more precise overall.

Built with Blizzard’s TrueBlend wood core consisting of poplar and beech, these skis are primed and ready to rip. They also use a unique blending of metal which puts one full sheet along the bottom of the core and one full sheet on top. The upper portion is broken up into three pieces, with two “rails” along the side and one “spine” in the middle. This unique way of dividing the metal makes for a very precise and smooth feel. Tester Matt Stromecki notes that “As someone who has not skied the Brahma 82, if it feels anything like the Anomaly 84 I understand why it has such a following. The Anomaly 84 is so smooth edge to edge and has slightly more precision than the 88 due to it having less tip and tail rocker. Fantastic carver, you can really feel the ski hook up in the forebody and rip you across the fall line. Loads of rebound at the finish of the turn with edge grip and smoothness in the initiation and mid-turn phase. Very intuitive carver.” With a stiff flex and an appropriate weight, these skis are incredibly confident and powerful.

At 84 mm underfoot, this ski does fit into a somewhat rare zone. There aren’t many skis out there that fit into this category. Armada Declivity 82, Salomon Stance Pro 82, and a few others, and that’s about it. Most skis in this width range now are based more off of a frontside platform. The Anomaly has more rocker than many other skis in this width range and has a rounder shape to give it more accessibility and versatility. Tester Bob St.Pierre states that “The Anomaly 84 is such a fun ski because it has the feel of a narrower on-trail ski but then it can also be manipulated to be a truly versatile all-mountain ski. I think one of the best things about the 84 is that it's such a solid carver but certainly has a mogul implication as well. It's very capable and poised, and at the same time fun and entertaining. While the Anomaly 84 is certainly an all-terrain ski, it really is more at home on groomers or packed snow. Keep in mind, though, that packed snow can also mean moguls, trees, and other non-groomed terrain. As long as it's not really deep or super soft, the 84 does great in all sorts of zones.”

Due to its unique blend of shape and build, the Anomaly 84 has a bit more of a narrow audience. Skiers looking for quickness and power will settle in nicely here, but there is a limit to the level. Skilled skiers will fare better here, as the ski does require some balance and thought. If you’re good, it feels intuitive, but if you are not used to skis at this level, it can feel quite demanding.
