2025 Men's Mid 90mm All Mountain Ski Comparison Lead Image

2025 Men's ~90mm All Mountain Ski Comparison

SEPTEMBER 12, 2024 | WRITTEN BY Bob St.Pierre

Next up we have an immensely popular grouping of skis in the ~90 mm range. These all-mountain skis range from competition-level twin tips to ripping carvers with race inspiration. In the middle of the wall, you’ll find more versatile skis that are equally as capable on-trail as well as off. Your bump and tree skis are more to the middle while the carvers are found on the right. It’s nice to have somewhat of a progression here, as the skis move from slarvy to carvy. This wall contains skis with carbon, metal, none of the above, or mixes of them all. Skiers who spend most of their time in an on-trail format while wanting some adventure will find a lot to like here. For endless all-mountain versatility, you’ll find a ski here.

Overview:

As one of the lighter and more mobile skis on the planet, the Elan Playmaker 91 doesn’t have to work to hard to find itself on the surfy side of the wall. With a tubelite wood core consisting of two shorter carbon tubes for grip and energy, the rest of the ski is light and flexible and totally fun. We get their surfy rocker profile to boost the soft snow performance while the light weight makes this ski incredibly agile in the park and other freestyle environments. This ski is great in the bumps and trees, operates great in powder, and has a simple shape and build that allows it to be accessible and approachable for all-mountain skiers looking for lightweight creativity and playfulness. It also comes in a 188, which is good news for taller skiers.

Who it's For:

Fun-loving freeriders looking for a narrower and more agile version of a wider twin. You want park performance but don’t need competition-level shaping or construction.

Overview:

As one of the more competition-oriented park skis on this list, the Armada ARV 88 returns unchanged but for graphics this year. We get the poplar wood core to go along with an ash insert for binding strength and underfoot density. With more camber underfoot than the wider ARV series of skis, the 88 has more energy built into the profile. Additionally, the 88 has more classic taper and rocker that lead to a traditional park feel while remaining modern enough for creative groundwork and upper-level slopestyle competitions. We love the energy and pop out of the ski as it pairs great with the easygoing nature of the flex and the mobility of the 88 mm waist. Skiers looking for the top end of park performance to go along with the smooth nature of a full poplar wood core will love the twin-tipped Armada ARV 88.

Who it's For:

Competitive or serious park skiers who are looking to put a premium on slopestyle and freestyle performance. You want extra energy and pep out of your park skis.

Overview:

This ski presents a nice foil to the Maverick 88 within the Atomic realm when it comes to flex, performance, and application. The Bent 90 returns unchanged for this year, keeping it squarely in the fun-loving all-mountain twin tip category. When we first got on these a few years back, it was clear that a lot of skiers were going to have a lot of fun. From bumps and trees to park and soft groomers, the Bent 90 is incredibly playful and useful on a daily basis. The edge grip and stability aren’t the best on this list as this ski leans more to the creative and smeary rather than the harsh and demanding. For smaller skiers, either adult or large child, the Bent 90 can handle a variety of conditions and terrain. There’s enough twin tip for park, and enough camber and rocker for trees and powder.

Who it's For:

This can be a tweener ski as well as a playful freeride option for both adults and big kids. You value light weight, flexible mobility, and a fun time on the hill without taking it too seriously.

Overview:

Like the ARV 88, the Volkl Revolt 90, along with the following K2 Omen 90, have a lot going for them when it comes to freestyle and slopestyle performance. This Revolt 90 is a bit of an outlier here as it’s a truly symmetrical ski that is built and shaped purely for balance and consistency. Built with a multi-layer wood core with a good amount of taper and a step-down core to balance the ski purely, the Revolt 90 feels equally at home frontwards or backwards or upside down or right side up. These skis are very specific in this regard, though, as they lack some of the all-mountain versatility and directional capabilities of most of the other skis on this list. Really what’s keeping it further from the playful side is the density of the wood core and Volkl’s continued commitment to making precise skis.

Who it's For:

X-Games, FIS, and Olympic competitors who are looking for the most balanced skis out there on the planet.

Overview:

As the narrower competition-based Omen from K2, the all-new Omen 90 has a sturdy feel to it while retaining a near-symmetrical shape, flex, and profile. Built with an aspen wood core and carbon boost braid, the skis are quite peppy and deliver a lot of feedback to the input of energy. We also see K2’s new Twin Tech Sidewalls that have infiltrated the Omen and Reckoner series of skis for 2025. By thinning the edges, especially in the tips and tails, K2 makes the Omen 90 considerably more mobile with a lighter swing weight. While not fully symmetrical, the measurements of 119/90/113 are close, and with a nearly central mount point, it’s easy to see the intended application of this ski is very much mired in the competitive slopestyle realm. While the Sight at 88 mm will be missed, the new Omen 90 is poised to break through in the competitive zones.

Who it's For:

Dedicated slopestyle and freestyle athletes who are looking for modern styling and construction in their twins. You value all-mountain capabilities, but are 99% park-focused.

Overview:

With a flexible shovel and tail, the Faction Prodigy 1 stands pretty stout in the underfoot zone, creating a different feel from end to end. If you’re looking for a surfy and smeary twin that is both helpful in the park and useful in an all-mountain ski, this is the place to be. Faction uses a poplar and ash wood core in these skis as well as a new carbon and rubber stomp pad for 2025. This boosts the underfoot damping and durability for rails and landing big tricks on firm snow. Versus the other twins on this wall, the Prodigy is a bit steadier in a directional format, with an 8 mm drop in overall taper from tip to tail and a 17-meter turn radius. This ski is fun in the bumps and trees at 88 mm underfoot, and with a freestyle-oriented tail, the park is never off limits.

Who it's For:

Skiers looking to mix freestyle and all-mountain in a narrower freeride shape. You spend at least 50% of your time in the park (or air) and are looking for a ski to adeptly handle the other 50% as well.

Overview:

The new Nightstick 90 feels quite a bit like the wider 97, just a bit stiffer overall and more sturdily built for pure park performance. Featuring the same poplar wood core with a titanal reinforcement, the Nightstick 90 is smooth and quiet and very consistent. In the tips and tails, we get more of a modern freeride feel with early taper and decent rocker. These skis feel robust and capable—equally at home in the park as in an all-mountain format. Closer to symmetrical, with a 117 mm tip and a 115 mm tail, the 2 mm of drop is minimal at most. This creates balance and harmony when it comes to switch riding, takeoffs, and landings. While it works best for park tricks, the symmetry can be a bit much for all-mountain skiing unless you strongly favor very clean and round turns.

Who it's For:

Freestyle-focused skiers who want smoothness, consistency, and durability. You don’t mind a slightly stiffer ski, especially since the weight remains pretty low.

Overview:

As a carryover model for 2025, the ZX 92 represents an interesting class of narrow(er) freeride skis. This is definitely not a twin tip—it has some rocker back there, but most of the shape and uniqueness here is born from the shovel. It’s a very tapered and rockered tip that stays out of the snow with ease. Thanks to a blend of poplar and beech in the wood core, the ZX 92 has great energy and zip out of the back of the turn, keeping skiers who are interested in off-trail acumen interested while those that prefer quicker and peppier turns on-trail will love the feedback from the ZX 92. As one of the widest skis on this wall, this one floats great—awesome in the trees and bumps as a result, with a lot of drifty agility to go along with a precise feel. As a great entry point into the low to mid-90's freeride realm, the ZX 92 has a big audience for mixing adventure with on-trail zest.

Who it's For:

Fun and playful all-mountain skiers who don’t want to push too hard. You like energy and snap, but don’t need the top end of carving performance.

Overview:

As a replacement for the Blackops 92, the Sender Soul 92 basically features a longer length and increased tail rocker. This ski is a full paulownia wood core, and a thicker one at that, that is surprisingly stiff and responsive. These skis are pretty light thanks to the blend of paulownia and Air Tip technology, allowing skiers to really access the agile and energetic responsiveness. Like the ZX, these are great floaters and are impressive in tighter trees, bumps, and other technical all-mountain zones. The increased tail rocker adds to the drifty mentality, keeping this ski feeling more like a nimble dancer rather than a full-on charger. Skiers looking for an introduction to all-mountain freeride skiing will appreciate the mix of underfoot grip with tip and tail mobility. Now in a longer length, this takes the Sender Soul 92 out of Tweener category and brings in more adult skiers to the mix.

Who it's For:

Skiers looking for a light and fun freeride ski with a narrower footprint. You value tree and powder perfomance and don’t want to work to hard to get it.

Overview:

Consistently one of the friendliest skis in this range, the K2 Mindbender 90 C is an awesome choice for budget-conscious skiers looking to mix it up. These skis are terribly unoffensive in all manners. They function well on groomers, they do great in bumps, they’re fun in the trees, they hold up well in variable conditions—the list goes on. Really anything other than park, these directional all-mountain skis handle it all. Thanks to the carbon spectral braid and the aspen wood core, you’re getting a relatively upscale feel with a more friendly cost. Thanks to K2’s insistence that skiing should be fun and exciting, these Mindbender 90 C’s may look and seem somewhat traditional, but there’s a surprising amount of pep going on here.

Overview:

This ski carries over to 2025, graphics and awesomeness all together. This ski is the one that handles more diversity than almost anything on the wall. With excellent on-trail characteristics that pair with phenomenal versatility, the QST 92 is as close to a one-ski quiver as you’re likely to find, especially when skier style and ability level comes into play. With a smooth poplar wood core, carbon and flax stringers, and a burly sidewall underfoot, these skis have energy and liveliness to spare while remaining fun, floaty and smeary with nearly zero weaknesses. The spoony tip shape keeps the ski afloat, and there’s decent taper in the tail to increase the mobility. In bumps, trees, and other tight spots, this ski is a total breeze, zipping its way down the fall line with minimal hesitation.

Overview:

This light and highly functional ski is just a blast to be on. Even larger and more aggressive skiers will find something to like here, although not quite as much as in years past as they’ve softened the flex for 2025. It still rips, though, and hangs tough with more established skis on this list like the Elan Ripstick 88 or Head Kore 87. We now move to poplar wood in the core over carbuba, and the carbon stringers are thinned down a notch for more flexible control. This ski still excels in the bumps and trees and other firmer zones with a lighter weight and an easy-to-use character. There’s a lot of camber here as well, so there’s pop built into the ski. While there’s not a ton of rocker to boost the flotation aspect of the ski, it’s still got enough to help out with mobility and maneuverability in softer spots. Overall, this ski hopefully will find a new audience this year, as one of the premium carbon-powered skis in this range.

Skiers looking for energy, pep, and rebound. You don’t ski too fast all the time, so stability at speed is not a huge priority for you.

Overview:

This ski gets a slight graphic change for 2025 but remains the same sturdy twin tip that we’ve loved for a while. There are many skiers who are looking for a twin tip but want some oomph and power to it as well. Compared to skis like the Bent 90, Playmaker 91, or the Revolt 90 on this list, the Captis is a considerably more traditionally shaped and constructed ski. With a full sidewall, excellent edge grip, and a fun camber profile, the Captis feels like a sturdier companion for all-mountain skiing with some park performance. It’s fantastic in the trees, amazing in the bumps, and surprisingly grippy on groomers and hard pack. Switch skiing, playfulness, and creativity are all on the docket when it comes to the Captis and it’s so far beyond most other 90’s out there with similar shapes and profiles.

Who it's For:

Stronger skiers will find a lot to like when it comes to the Captis and it makes good sense for skiers looking for a bit more heft.

Overview:

We get a bit of a graphic update for 2025, but other than that, the Ranger 90 remains structurally unchanged. These skis are easy to use, and like the QST 92, has very few weak spots. The shaped Ti helps keep the ski firmly adhered to the snow while the playful tips pair with a softer flex for better soft snow and crud performance. This is a true all-mountain ski in that it’s built and shaped for pure versatility. It’s not expected to do one thing particularly well, rather, the entirety of the ski realm is meant to be covered here. In that regard, the Ranger 90 is a total success. This is a big reason why the Ranger is found almost dead center on the wall—it effectively mixes fun and performance without a hitch.

Who it's For:

There’s a lot of skiers who will benefit from the blend of sturdiness and playfulness found in the Ranger 90. You value edge grip and carving power, but do not want to sacrifice soft snow fun in order to get it.

Overview:

It makes almost perfect sense that a metal-clad 88 mm twin tip would find its way to the middle of the comparison. The all-new Line Optic 88 is a very surprising ski with almost limitless potential. This is one of those skis that snuck right up on us, taking the spot as narrowest Optic, and bringing the Gas Pedal Metal Overdrive laminate into the Optic fold as the previous 92 had no metal. Now, we get a carvy twin tip that has great flotation, a round overall feel, and superb edge grip and dampness. The bottom line is that these skis rip. They deliver uncommonly stout snow feel to go along with endless versatility. You can take these in the bumps, rip them down a groomer, and dance effortlessly through the trees. With a longer sidewall than the wider Optic skis, the 88 solidifies itself as an on-piste contender with authority. Add a twin tip to the mix and you’ve got a winning and sadly rare formula.

Overview:

With a new build and shape but the same great attitude, the 2025 Elan Ripstick 88 brings carbon-powered fun into the new season. We still get the tubes along the sides, but instead of a carbon laminate on the top of the core, we get two unidirectional strips on the bottom. This keeps the carbon closer to the snow for increased snow feel and a quieter feel. As far as shape, the tip loses a bit of width, the waist gains a bit, and the tail gets slightly wider as well, making it a slightly longer turner than before. This helps skiers vary turn shape and style at different edge angles and at various speeds. The shovel is a bit more flexible than before as Vapor Tips have been removed in favor of a flax layer for damping.

Overview:

Now in year 2 of existence, the Dynastar M-Cross 88 continues to be at the forefront of the carving portion of this grouping. With more of a pintail shape that allows the skier to easily dictate shape and direction, the M-Cross 88 is very intuitive and easy to ski, but feel free to push it hard to get confident carving on any type of snow. The mix of sophisticated construction pairs well with the innovative shaping to create a fun, useful, and approachable ski for advanced and expert skiers. By milling and pressing two sections of horizontal wood core laminates together, Dynastar reduces the amount of adhesive used, which in turn, lowers the ski’s carbon footprint. With polyurethane along the sides of the ski, the M-Cross 88 keeps it light, quiet and smooth—considerably more so than many other skis on this wall.

Who it's For:

This is a great ski for intermediates through expert skiers who are looking for confidence and performance in an on-trail setting. There are some off-trail capabilities, mainly in bumps and trees, but they’re more at home on the front side.

Overview:

So far, we’ve loved the new Liberty Radian 92 and its ability to make clean, energetic, quick, and powerful turns both on trail and off. These skis pick right up where the Evolv series left off and adds a whole lot to like. We now get a blend of poplar and ash in the wood core, carbon stringers and a Variable Metal laminate that goes from full-width underfoot to a tapered shape as it gets to the tips and tails. This is reminiscent of how the older Rustler skis implemented their metal, although the Radian’s is a bit shorter overall. This avoids a hinge, making Radian smooth, predictable, and energetic. Skiers who enjoy energy from the tail and fun from the shovel will get along great with these new Radian 92’s. The rocker profile of the tail is on the flatter side, although it is considerably more fun looking than the tail of Evolv—the Radian keeps a lot of the on-trail characteristics and adds more versatility.

Who it's For:

Skiers who like the feel of metal underfoot but want something that’s more friendly and fun in the tips and tails. These directional rippers are great for advanced skiers looking for true all-mountain performance and versatility.

Overview:

With a graphic update for 2025, the Atomic Maverick 88 Ti returns as one of the more precise and sharp skis on this list. It just feels like it was inspired by a ginsu knife or a samurai sword because it’s just so darn crisp. At the same time, the HRZN tech in the tips as well as the slight rocker allow it to function well in softer snow, crud, and chop. The flex is stiff, especially in the tail, as it feels that the ski will bite into the hardpack and not let go until the very end. For skis with two sheets of metal, the Maverick 88 Ti is on the lighter side, so it’s not as demanding as some of its heftier counterparts. That said, it’s a bit tough in firm bumps as the ski isn’t really amenable to flexing all that much, especially in the tails.

Who it's For:

Overview:

With a graphic change for 2025, the K2 Mindbender 89 Ti returns as one of the more directional skis on this wall, and while it makes very short and crisp turns, it still lacks some of the high-speed performance and super-sturdiness of some of the later skis on this wall. We love the shorter radius, the poppy tail, and the smooth overall character. While more advanced skiers will be able to eke out some versatility, this ski is certainly a bit happier in an on-piste format. With innovative metal shaping and a lighter aspen wood core, the Mindbender 89 Ti is pretty stiff through the midbody and very grippy in the front. The tail is more energetic than it is demanding, but skiers will still be enthralled with the rebound and pop of the rear portion of this ski.

Overview:

There aren’t many skis that offer this amount of light weight performance and character—the Stance 90 has been overlooked in this category for too long. With a slightly longer turn shape and style, these skis are incredibly smooth and agile. Bump skiers and other short turn specialists can easily manipulate that longer arc into shorter swing turns to make it energetic and peppy. Fans of speed will be just as happy to let it run and take you to the next level of high-performance carving. Thanks to the mix of metal, poplar, caruba, carbon, and flax, the Stance 90 has a modern and sophisticated construction that makes it unique, fun, and predictable both on and off-trail. It fits in great with the skis on this list because it’s able to operate on multiple levels at the same time.

Who it's For:

Sometimes skis like this get lost because they do everything so well. Skiers looking for a predictable, powerful, and mobile ski should definitely check out the Stance 90.

Overview:

While this ski has always been a favorite of ours in this category, the move to poplar from caruba gives the smoothness and confidence quite a boost. Since the ski uses an Articulated Titanal Band in order to dampen the vibrations, it always felt just fine with the lighter and peppier caruba. Now with Poplar, the ski feels quieter and tamer, but also more confident and powerful. Now, the Declivity 92 feels more capable in choppy snow, crud, spring mush, and other adverse conditions. This helps boost skier’s potential on the hill and creates more of a fluid feel overall. When compared to other skis in this range, the Declivity has a decidedly upscale feel—many skiers are looking for less expensive alternatives to the Kastle’s and Stockli’s of the world, and the recommendation of a Declivity is an easy and effective one for us.

Who it's For:

Active and agile skiers who like a bit of pep in the step when it comes to carving and ripping turns. You want versatility, but your priority lies closer with a clean carved turn.

166, 175, 184 cm18.4 m @ 175 cm128 / 88 / 114 mm1,675 g @ 175 cmSilence, Quality, Smoothness

Overview:

With smoothness, quality, and silence, the Stockli Stormrider 88 has a whole lot to offer strong skiers looking for a high-end feel and finish. We’ve noted before, that it’s not like the Stormrider outperforms other skis on this wall, rather it does it a lot quieter. This is a carryover model from last year, so sticking with the blend of poplar and paulownia is a great complement to the two sheets of metal. The upper layer of metal serves as the topsheet as well, keeping the weight down and the silence up. The tail is surprisingly stiff and demanding, as evidenced by the aluminum insert that keeps it strong and square. There’s simply a level of quality and precision that is unmatched anywhere else in the ski industry today.

Who it's For:

Quality-minded skiers who like the feeling of nothing underfoot. You still like the feeling of g-forces and carving, but don’t wany to feel anything else.

Overview:

New skis don’t get much more universal appeal and traction than the new Blizzard Anomaly 88. It’s tough to replace a legend like the Brahma 88, and in many ways the Anomaly won’t touch it in terms of total top end performance, but that’s like the 1% of the 1%. For the remaining 99.9% of skiers in the world today, Anomaly 88 is a big time upgrade. By incorporating more rocker in both tips and tails, and changing to a more sophisticated construction, the Anomaly 88 feels like a more versatile and unlocked version of the outgoing Brahma 88. This has little to do with the top gear, as the Anomaly 88 still has a ton of power, stability, carving strength, and edge grip. All they’ve done is bring a bit of Rustler into the ski and made it like 10X more versatile. Now you can get into bumps, trees, crud, softer snow, and just have more fun.

Who it's For:

Strong and capable skiers who are looking for race-like groomer performance to accompany brilliant off-trail capacities. You’ve wanted a Rustler 8 for years as a narrower ski with more on-trail faculty, and now you have it.

Overview:

We get a new name and topsheet, but the same construction as last year, taking Kendo and moving it into Mantra world. While it makes sense from a model cohesion standpoint, there are certainly going to be skiers that will miss the Kendo name for sure. Rest assured, the performance and precision are still right there. Volkl keeps their 3D Radius Sidecut firmly entrenched as a centerpiece for sophistication, and the tailored titanal frame allows the edges to stay firmly entrenched on any type of snow. Feel free to stand on the edges of this ski with total confidence and allow the slightest of pressure changes to mix up turn shape and style with ease. While the performance level can reach an insanely high ceiling, it’s also pretty approachable, mainly due to the flatter camber profile. While bump skiers and tree fans will have to work harder to get the Mantra 88 to acquiesce, most on-trail skiers will love how this ski handles daily conditions and terrain.

Who it's For:

Precision-oriented skiers who prefer strong and capable edge grip above all else. You don’t mind a bit of a ping to your ski as long as it’s accompanied by top-shelf power and confidence.

Overview:

With a beefed-up core and a wider overall shape, the new 2025 Nordica Enforcer 89 is a beast to be reckoned with. Strong and capable skiers will still be able to wrangle this ski in off-trail situations, but most will view this as a wider-bodied carving ski with power to spare. We get a slightly longer stated turn radius, but it feels very capable of shorter arcs, mainly due to the more forward mount point that aligns with the new height of camber. When you factor in a new pulse core laminate to accompany the thicker core, the new Enforcer 89 feels totally connected to the snow with enough heft to satisfy the most demanding of skiers. We feel 100% at home on this ski in a carved turn here in Vermont, as the ski hooks in to the turn with confidence and finishes with otherworldly energy. Nordica has gone all-out to make the new Enforcer 89 a groundbreaking all-mountain ski, and we’re here for it.

Who it's For:

Expert skiers and former racers will get the most out of this ski. You prefer keeping your skis on the snow and engaged in a carved turn while enjoying the confidence of a wider-bodied platform.

Overview:

Now the widest of the MX line, the all-new 88 brings carving performance to the forefront of the all-mountain division. For years, we’ve noted that the MX 88 is one of the best carvers of this group, and that does not change. The only reason it’s not last on this wall is because the Arcade 88 is just that much more focused on front side while the MX 88 at least has a tad of versatility built into the tip shape. Infini Core All-Mountain is the story here with a blend of poplar and beech stringers along the inside with poplar on the outside. This gives the ski a strong backbone and more flexible sides for some level of approachability. We then get two full sheets of metal that end just before the new Hollow Tech Evo tips. In the 181, we’re looking at almost a 19-meter turn radius as these skis are built for high-speed performance. With amazing energy and rock-solid grip, it’s tough to deny these skis their spot as some of the most precise and powerful 88’s on the market today.

Who it's For:

Accomplished skiers looking for race-like precision and power. You value a clean carved turn with no exceptions.

2025 Rossignol Arcade 88 Skis

As the most carvy ski on this wall, featuring some pretty heavy hitters, the Rossignol Arcade 88 is an all-mountain weapon that creates some of the deepest and cleanest arcs out there. With a stiff flex due to a thick poplar core, two sheets of metal, and line control technology, the Arcade 88 is glued to the snow in a carved turn, creating a 15-meter arc in the 178 cm length. Also keeping it on the carvy side is the long camber profile with minimal taper and rocker. While the tail is a bit friendlier than the Kastle, the tip and shovel are far more engaging in firm snow. When it comes to powder, trees, or bumps, the lack of rocker pushes the tips down and makes the skier react differently than on most of the other skis here. One of the nice things about Arcade 88 is that it’s considerably more affordable than the outgoing Experience 86 Ti that it replaces. You’re getting a ton of carving power and on-trail performance for a lower price, and that’s something you don’t see a whole lot of these days.

Who it's For:

Strong skiers who like to have their edges engaged a whole lot. You are not a lazy skier nor do you like low edge angles.
