They're just so smooth. There's no better way to say it or put it, they're just so darn smooth. Easily the most surprising ski I've been on in the past two years. Not necessarily the best or the one that I'd purchase, but certainly the most surprising. Unchanged for 2021, the Evolv90 will pick up where it left off, surprising skiers who want a little something out of the ordinary. Using Liberty's VMT core, the ski has two vertical metal struts that are sandwiched between bamboo stringers in a poplar core. With carbon stringers that run the central portion of the ski, the Evolv manages to be light, smooth, and stable all at the same time. Usually when you skimp on weight, you're going to lose stability, but this is not the case with the VMT core from Liberty. The vertical struts accomplish more stiffening and damping with less material, so Liberty's really on to something here, and it works. Our testers all shared my surprise at the dampness and stealthy feel of the Evolv90, and are looking forward to spending more time on the skis in the year to come.

Caroline Kessler skied the 179 and found it to be a good length for her. 5's on the scorecard for stability, quickness, playfulness, forgiveness, and overall impression. All other scores of 4 show the well-roundedness and high-performance ceiling of the Evolv90. Caroline "absolutely loved this ski. One of the best all-mountain skis I've been on. Smooth turns, poppy transitions thanks to the bamboo core, super fun in all snow conditions. I would recommend to any skier above intermediate, especially on the east coast." While measuring 90 underfoot, the skis don't have a ton of rocker, only about 10% in the tip with camber throughout the underfoot and tail, so the soft snow of the west wouldn't be as good of a fit for that one-ski quiver in the east.
Bob St.Pierre skied the 186 and noted that it skied true to size. Bob's a big skier, so he's always on the lookout for skis that offer the next length up, but to no avail with the Evolv90 as they top out at the 186. Regardless, Bob scored the ski all 5's right down the card. It doesn't even look like he read the categories, just a straight line down the 5 column. "Quietest, smoothest, and most stable ski I have ever been on" Bob starts. "Pretty much perfect in every way imaginable for me." And in conclusion, Bob nicknames the ski a "silent assassin-so incredibly quiet." Sounds like we'll be seeing Bob on an Evolv90 in the not-too-distant future! Noah Labow is usually more entertained by twin tips and freestyle skis, but he found his way to an Evolv90 and was not disappointed. He skied the 179 and found it to be appropriate. All 4's and 5's from Noah, with the lone exception of a 3 for flotation. Certainly, the lack of rocker contributes that score. Noah notes that the Evolv90 has "great edge hold. This ski felt awesome on my feet." And in terms of that shallow rocker profile, "I liked the long running length and lack of tip rocker. I didn't want to stop turning this ski!!!" Wow, three exclamation points!
Skiers on the east coast looking for that slightly wider carving ski should certainly check out the Liberty Evolv90. With a more traditional profile and a new-school build, this ski bridges a lot of gaps and makes carving and turning so incredibly fun and engaging. They're more responsive than stiff, but still hold an incredible edge and there's just something really innovative about those vertical metal struts-a totally unique and different feel than any other build out there.
