2025 Men's Mid 90mm All Mountain Ski Comparison Lead Image

2025 Men's Mid 90mm All Mountain Ski Comparison

SEPTEMBER 5, 2024 | WRITTEN BY Bob St.Pierre

The Men’s Mid-90 mm All-Mountain Ski Comparison wall is a monster. This is clearly a huge category for us and the ski industry as a whole. You get skis like the Volkl Revolt 96 sitting next to an Elan Ripstick 96, pitting pure freestyle performance against lightweight versatility. You get the zesty energy of a Black Crows Serpo bouncing off the power of the new Blizzard Anomaly 94. When it comes to all-mountain use as well as freestyle applications, this is the place to be. There’s a lot of variety here, with different materials, shapes, and styles all coming together to create a category with no bounds. We’re happy to discuss whether this group of skis or the ~90 mm (or the ~100’s for that matter) comprise the best all-arounders, and you could certainly make a strong case for any. At the end of the day, the mid-90's offers the best blend of on-trail carving performance, park-oriented twin tips, and maneuverable freeride-based skis for soft snow adventure. Enjoy!

Overview:

The Serpo returns with a new color for this year but brings the most snap and pop out of pretty much everything on this wall. The tail of the Serpo is one of the more rewarding parts of any ski here, delivering a ton of energy at the end of every turn. With longer rocker in the tips and tails, there’s versatility here as well, but this ski operates in an on-trail format better than most 93’s out there in the world. The precision and zest of this ski is off the charts and if you’re willing to be an active participant in the process, this ski will put a huge smile on your face from top to bottom. There’s some stiffness here, so it’s on the more demanding side, even with having one partial sheet of metal.

Who it's For:

Front side enthusiasts looking for a wider-bodied ski to mix on and off-trail properties. You want something different and unique and aren’t afraid to work a bit harder to get the corresponding performance.

Overview:

When it comes to light weight performance in the mid-90's it’s impossible to overlook the carbon-powered Kore 93 from Head. These skis have an uncanny blend of stiffness and lightness—something that nothing else on this list has. When paired with a truly all-mountain shape, these skis carve insanely well while bringing agility and mobility to the mix for off-trail conditions and technical terrain. For something this light, the Kore 93 has amazing smoothness and power. The curved carbon laminate on the top of the light caruba wood core is the big culprit here, as the stiff material gets even stiffer when put in a three-dimensional format. While the shape of the ski is inspired by more freeride-oriented skis, the profile is more directional, with longer camber and less rocker. For carving turns and ripping through firm snow, these skis are a total blast.

Who it's For:

There’s an interesting mix here, as heavier skiers will have more success when it comes to flexing the skis into a carved turn. Conversely, lighter skiers who prefer shallower edge angles will also love the mobility and security of these agile performers.

Overview:

The new Kastle Paragon 93 shares a footprint with the existing ZX 92 but with a more sophisticated construction. With a blend of poplar, paulownia, and beech in narrow stringers, Kastle fine-tunes the build of the ski to provide more spinal power to the ski while leaving the sides of the ski lighter and more amenable to softer snow conditions and more torsional flex. The tip floats great, and for a ski with two sheets of metal, the weight stays down, and the agility stays up. Kastle does a great job at blending power, precision, and mobility together in a highly well-rounded package. The tail is more directional than the tip, leading to an excellent rebound and finish at the end of the turn.

Who it's For:

Strong skiers looking for a blend of precision, power, and flotation. You want your soft snow ski to also be your firm snow ski for a variety of conditions and terrain.

Overview:

With some amazing updates for 2025, the Nordica Enforcer 94 brings new life and pep to this category without removing the high-end traction and power that we’ve known from this ski for years. Ever since we first got on the Enforcer 94, it took on the character of being able to make any turn at any time in any snow on any terrain. For 2025, that only gets boosted with a new and thicker wood core to go along with more of a freeride shape and style. We also get a pulse core laminate underfoot to further smooth out vibrations, allowing this ski to sit right at the top of skis on this wall that are unfettered and unflappable at speed in a purely carved turn. While bumps and trees still take some extra work, the Enforcer 94 will do as told, making adverse conditions and terrain accessible for stronger skiers.

Who it's For:

Skilled and aggressive skiers will get the most out of the Enforcer 94. You want a sharp and crisp-turning ski with no wavering or second thoughts. This ski is pure connection to the snow.

Overview:

With a whole new build and shape, the 2025 Blizzard Anomaly 94 picks up right between where the Brahma 88 and Bonafide 97 left off when it comes to true high-performance skiing and power. While Bonafide purists may scoff at the lack of two full and consistent sheets of metal, rest assured, the strength and cohesion are more than we could have ever asked for in a mid-90's all-mountain ski. With a strong and sophisticated wood core, a full sheet of metal below and a three-piece laminate on top, the Anomaly 94 is built and shaped with pure thought and creativity. It results in amazing on-snow performance and limitless stability. We’ve found it to excel in faster and longer turns despite the shorter arc, and when it comes to crud and chop, there is nothing better out there than the new Anomaly 94.

Overview:

On the lighter and more mobile side of the spectrum, the Volkl Blaze 94 gets an update for this year, bringing a new core, more metal, and a new turn profile to the mix. Overall, this is a move to the more all-mountain side, away from the touring or hybrid style that the ski was invented upon. Now, the metal spans the whole breadth of the underfoot portion, delivering a smoother and stronger carving performance. We get green core technology as well, lowering the carbon footprint and increasing the stiffness by just a bit. The big story with the shape is the implementation of 4 Radius Drive, giving the ski a shorter entry and exit while keeping the stability at speed fully intact. Everything from groomers to bumps to trees to powder is on the table with the Blaze 94. These skis are built for utility, but still manage to keep it in a lightweight package.

Who it's For:

There’s a big audience here, from skiers who simply prefer a lighter, more versatile ski to those who want precision and energy with endless sophistication. You want something that feels and performs and punches above its level.

Overview:

As an all-new ski for 2025, Dynastar finally makes its way into the mid-90's segment. For years, it’s been either 90 or 100, but the new M-Pro 94 sits nicely right in the middle. This new 94 takes a lot of the things we’ve loved about the 99 or the 90 over the years and simply makes it rounder and more amenable to more skiers. They took a bit of grip out of the tail and rounded the whole shape and profile. By using their Hybrid Core 2.0 technology, the skis get pop and power without weighing too much. The use of polyurethane is great in these skis, as it now takes up about 50% of the whole core. It provides smoothness and silence in a variety of conditions and terrain. With more tail rocker and a shorter turn radius, the M-Pro 94 feels more well-rounded overall with a high-performance ceiling.

Who it's For:

A lot of skiers will benefit from this new shape and build. Intermediates through experts will find success and happiness here with the smoother and more consistent character of the ski. If you want a ski that does it all, this is a great place to be.

Overview:

This twin tip is an excellent choice for skiers who are looking for a flexible and playful ski that still has some all-mountain chops to it. Feel free to rip down a bump line or search for deep snow in the woods on your way to the park, this ski handles all things fun. By keeping the w3dgewall tech to boost sidewall strength, the skis still feel very cohesive and sturdy, but now quite a bit quieter and smoother thanks to the move to poplar wood in the core. With freestyle influence in the tips and tails, this ski can vacillate between off-trail adventure, on-trail carving, and park performance with ease.

Overview:

Liberty has certainly changed it up for 2025, with all new skis and an all-new factory. This move to European manufacturing mainly means the transition from bamboo to poplar in most/all of their skis. The Scope 94 uses a blend of poplar and ash to go along with a stiff phenolic plate underfoot to power the freeride-oriented twin. Park skiers who have used Helix in the past but want more of a directional feel will be right at home on the new Scope 94. While within Liberty’s realm, the Scope picks up where Origin left off, these are very different skis. With no vertical metal or carbon, the Scope is considerably more flexible in the tips and tails, making creative skier a whole lot easier to achieve. The optional central mount point indicates that freestyle and slopestyle are a big part of this ski’s character while the sturdy underfoot zone keeps more directional skiers interested and connected to the snow.

Who it's For:

Skiers with a freestyle background will get along great with the new Scope 94. If you’re a fan of butters, jibs, and groundwork, this ski will be your jam.

Overview:

We get a new topsheet for 2025, but otherwise this engaging twin tip returns unchanged. When we first got on the new Chronic 94 last season, we were very impressed with the blend of edge grip, on-trail performance, park fluency, and freeride versatility. Those feelings have not waned—this ski is still a very fun, funky, and engaging twin for all-mountain and freestyle applications. They play with thick and thin better than anyone else, keeping a firm underfoot zone and incredibly agile tips and tails for lighter swing weight and steady carving. There aren’t many freestyle-influenced skis at this width that carve like this, and it’s all due to the thick wood core, sidewalls, and edges. When you want to mix it up, the Chronic 94 tackles off-piste situations with ease and handles big tricks in the park with no complaints.

Overview:

As far as all-mountain twin tips go, the Head Oblivion 94 is one of the more traditional ones out there. There’s a good amount of camber here, with minimal taper, making the returning Oblivion 94 an awesome choice for skiers who lean more to the all-mountain and pure freestyle rather than the drifty freeride. This is a real-deal ski with a full wood core and full sidewalls. Paired with a total lack of taper and minimal rocker, the Oblivion 94 brings park performance to the rest of the mountain. These skis are durable, strong, and carve very well for their flex—the 94 does feel softer than the 84 and the wider 102 with carbon. The 94 sits more in the middle when it comes to mixing park and groomer performance. With just a new graphic for 2025, this ski should continue to appeal to park skiers with a versatile mentality.

Who it's For:

Park-specific skiers looking for more than just a park ski. You want stability and power to go along with flexible tips and tails. This ski feels like a real ski and works great on the feet of real skiers.

Overview:

As a carryover model for 2025, the Stockli Stormrider 95 holds a smooth and quiet place in our hearts when it comes to powerful all-mountain performance. This is one of the most directional skis on this wall, but it blends precision, strength, and silence better than most. The blend of poplar and paulownia wood in the core makes sense as it keeps the ski light and agile. We still get two sheets of metal with the upper laminate acting as the first point of contact making the ski incredibly quiet and responsive. This ski is great for pure all-mountain performance from groomers and steeps to bumps and trees. Overview:

We get all new Ripsticks for 2025, and the 96 remains the most versatile of the bunch. The “Green” one is now just a bit more subdued in coloring but keeps the lightweight energy pumping at an absolute maximum. We get new carbon applications for this year to go along with their tubelite wood core of poplar and paulownia. We still get the rods, but the upper laminate of carbon is replaced with two longitudinal and uni-directional strips that run below the core. This quiets the ski down and makes it feel more connected to the snow. In the shovel of the ski, in lieu of Vapor Tips, Elan uses a Flax laminate to keep the vibrations to a minimum. This allows them to keep the core profile very thin while the rest of the ski has energy and pep for good grip and rebound.

Overview:

With an emphasis on light weight energy and pop, the 2025 Elan Ripstick 96 Black Edition brings a higher end feel to the Green version. We get an entirely new build for this year, but the overall theme remains the same. Black Edition gets a carbon boost over the already carbon-powered normal 96, adding more stability and smoothness to the mix. The ski gets the additional two carbon rods in the forebody and through the tail in the core, and then in addition to the uni-directional carbon bands along the edges under the core, the Black Edition sees an additional C-Ply carbon reinforcement on the top of the ski in the underfoot zone. While it’s a bit of a difference between the 96 Black Edition of years past, it still ticks the performance up from the Green version. This gives this ski a smooth and powerful snow feel underfoot while the tips and tails are more flexible and forgiving for soft and broken snow.

Who it's For:

Fans of light carbon will love the energy and ease of use of the Ripstick 96 Black. If you like cruising and mixing it up between on and off-trail applications, this ski is forgiving and fun.

Overview:

We get a new topsheet for 2025, but otherwise the K2 Mindbender 96 C returns unchanged. When we skied this thing last year, it made perfect sense as to why K2 needs this ski in their lineup. It provides a fun and playful foil to the more business-like Ti versions of the Mindbender. The carbon-powered one allows for more skiers to get more adventurous in softer snow and more diverse terrain. There’s a good amount of rocker here, but it’s buoyed by the carbon spectral braiding that increases the torsional stiffness in the shovel. In the tail, the carbon is more directional, leading to more pop and energy from a rebound standpoint. Hard chargers may still fall more in line with the Ti skis, but for most skiers, the Carbon versions are more than enough when it comes to blending performance and flotation.

Overview:

With classic camber and two full sheets of metal, the Faction Dancer 2 is a pretty specific ski in this wall, operating from a place of carving and energy while staying 96 mm underfoot. Like the Stance and the M7, these skis feel like more on-trail specialists, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be aspirational or adventurous—it just takes a bit more work. While there is some rocker and taper to speak of here, it’s really all about the cambered portions of the ski paired with dual-metal laminate and full sidewall. Faction is better known for their freestyle and freeride skis, but they certainly do a fine job in making more traditional all-mountain skis with high performance ceilings. They’re stiff and hefty, so expecting ease of use in trees and tight spaces isn’t really a thing, but for energetic carved turns on groomers paired with open space crud and chop performance, Dancer 2 is right at the top.

Who it's For:

Overview:

It’s been a long time coming for the Mantra in terms of changing things and improving the quality, and we’re here for it. The M7 employs a slightly different shape, a bit of an update in build, and a considerably higher energy level. Mantra fans who have been faithful will still find everything there is to like, with the added bonus of the skis bringing a ton of pep and zest to the mix. The Carbon Tips have been further tailored, the frame has been brought in at the pinch points to avoid delamination, and the profile of the ski is flatter and smoother overall. With the addition of 4 Radius Drive, the M7 is more eager to make shorter turns in the initiation and completion phase, but feel free to let them run at higher speeds and in longer arcs—the 40-meter forebody is so incredibly smooth and predictable. It’s fun to find a home on this ski, as it produces a bunch of different characteristics within each run. There’s no loss of stability or power here—the M7 remains top of the class when it comes to strength and precision.

Who it's For:

Former racers and aggressive experts are the target audience here. If you like to carve clean turns of any shape or style, this is the ski for you. While on-trail skiers will reap enormous benefits, off-trail skiers have to work a bit harder to get the ski to behave in powder.

There’s a huge application here for all-mountain skiing for advanced and expert skiers who want the feel and stability of metal but also want something a bit lighter for increased mobility and fun. Overview:

Like the Stance, the Ranger 96 gets a graphic refresh but remains structurally unchanged. This is good news for skiers who love the mix of soft snow flotation paired with on-piste edge grip. The blend of shaped Ti underfoot and the spoony tips and tails in the Ranger make it a fairly unique ski in this mid-90's range. We see a lot of frames and full laminates, but not a lot of shaped ones. The Dynastar M-Pro 94 is a good comparison here, as the metal is focused in the underfoot zone for grip and smoothness while the ends are left unencumbered and more playful. This has been true of the Ranger in the past and continues into the present. It’s impressive how the Ranger 96 can seamlessly go from bumps and trees to powder or groomers—it's built and shaped for everything, and that comes to fruition when the ski hits the snow. By mixing beech and poplar, you get the confidence you need to hit high speeds and take it down to a more playful realm.

Who it's For:

There’s a broad range here, from accomplished experts to emerging intermediates looking to capture all that the mountain has to offer. You like soft snow capacity but aren’t really interested in giving up edge grip and carving power to get it.

Overview:

This has been a sleeper ski for us over the past two years, and we’re eternally hopeful that it’ll gain some traction and find a home among advanced and expert skiers who are looking for a playful yet sturdy twin for pure all-mountain and freeride skiing. By utilizing a unique metal laminate and incorporating it into a twin tip shape, the Optic 96 is a rare ski that operates on a number of different planes. On one hand, it’s a sturdy and capable carver with a thick core profile underfoot to go along with a torsionally rigid shaped metal laminate. On the other hand, this ski has a lot of rocker and splay in both tips and tails—it tapers to cap in these zones, allowing for high mobility and excellent flotation. Add in a freestyle-oriented twin tip to the end and you’ve got it all built into a 96 mm underfoot ski. From park and trees to bumps and groomers, this Optic 96 has a ton of versatility and playfulness built into a directional twin shape.

Who it's For:

Playful skiers looking for a charging twin. You value creativity, but not at the expense of carving performance or stability.

Overview:

It’s tough to replace the Poacher—one of our long-standing favorite twin tips in this width range. That ski was burly, fun, steady, and darn-near indestructible. With Omen Team taking its place as a mid-90's twin tip for both park competition and all-mountain riding, we’re entering a new age of K2 skis. This new ski still uses an aspen wood core that is wrapped in triaxially braided fiberglass. We also get carbon stringers that are woven into the glass in a longitudinal manner. One of the bigger moves is the addition of twintech sidewalls that make the ski more durable while keeping edge grip at a maximum. It also lightens the swing weight a bit, especially in the tips and tails. There’s a lot of pop in these skis to go along with a very familiar feel. I’m sure we’ll see these on the podium at slopestyle events this upcoming year.

Who it's For:

Competitive park skiers looking for versatility and a bit of oomph in their twins. You value energy and sturdiness as opposed to feather-like weight.

Overview:

We get a new topsheet for 2025, but still the same awesome Revolt 96 build and shape! This ski holds up to seriously strong use from a variety of skiers who are spreading their use case between park, bumps, trees, groomers, and powder. While the Revolt 90 holds more of a specific space in Volkl’s lineup as the competition twin, the Revolt 96 takes the versatility up a notch, bringing a classic feel to a more modern shape. The taper in the tips and tails is the big story here from a footprint perspective, allowing for smooth maneuvering through crud and chop. Volkl’s thick multi-layer wood core holds up to aggressive skiing and higher speeds while the more central mount point keeps creativity and flow at the top of the priority list. I still personally they made this ski in a 187, but it’s not my call.

Who it's For:

Freestyle-oriented skiers who like a bit of heft in their park skis. You value a ski that can work great in a slopestyle format but doesn’t feel twiggy.

Overview:

On a personal note, I’m very thankful for this ski. On one of our industry demo days, at the end of a long day of skiing and filming, we still had a few runs to do. The Vision 96 was on my list of skis to test, and it seemed like a good time. Not only did this ski reward strong skiing with excellent energy and fluidity, it also saved my legs and stretched out my day. One of our testers is a lot younger and stronger than I, and since I still had to follow him on skis, the Vision 96 allowed me to do so with minimal effort and maximum success. As a result, I’m forever thankful for the Vision 96’s versatility, agility, predictability, and energy. It’s light, fun, and incredibly rewarding. With a new shape for 2025, this ski skirts the line between resort and touring, with Line leaving it up to the skier to determine the ski’s final application and use case. I think it’s a great resort ski, right there with the Blaze 94 as a sturdy companion for the weight, keeping it firmly entrenched in adventurous lift served skiing.

Who it's For:

Aggressive skiers who are used to heftier skis may want to steer clear, but if you are looking for ease of use and high mobility, you can certainly get a lot from this ski. If touring or hybrid skiing is part of your ski goals, this is a great place to be.

Overview:

We get a slightly updated graphic for 2025, but Camox returns as one of the most versatile twins out there. This ski has a whole lot going for it when it comes to mixing twin tip playfulness with all-mountain performance. It’s sturdy and somewhat hefty with a lot of camber so there’s a nice traditional feel to this ski. With good snap at the end of a carved turn, this ski feels like it belongs in an on-trail format for sure, but then when you get in bumps and trees, it feels right at home. While the park skiers may find it to be a bit cumbersome and clunky for more modern tricks, butters, and groundwork, it’s composed and balanced in the air, despite having more of a directional nature.

Who it's For:

Almost anyone. We’ve felt that the Camox holds up to very strong skiing from a variety of skiers. This ski fits into the category of checking a lot of boxes for a lot of skiers.

Overview:

While I was not expecting a whole lot from the Nightstick 97, my actual experience was quite different. These things rip. It felt like I thought the Ranger 96 should feel, only better. Clean and round turns were no issue whatsoever, and the twin tip shape offers a ton of playfulness and creativity for bumps, trees, and softer snow. While the skis are on the flexible side of the spectrum, the metal underfoot goes a long way to making it feel like a more upscale ski in terms of performance. Freestyle skiers will love the twin tip shape and style as it oozes playfulness and creativity. Equally at home in the slopestyle course as it is in the crud, chop, or powder, this ski fits right in with the other mid-90's twin tips in terms of on and off-trail behavior.

Who it's For:

Skiers who bounce back and forth between park and all-mountain skiing. Basically, you want a twin tip that rips, but also want a freeride ski that handles park. This is a chameleon.

Overview:

If there were ever a ski that deserved so many accolades, the Rustler 9 is one of them. In the 186 that we have on the wall, the waist hits 98 mm, making it the widest ski here, but all other lengths have a 96 mm waist. Either way, the Rustler 9 is just one of those skis that can handle a firm Vermont day, a soft Utah afternoon, or a day exploring the woods in search of cliffs and adventure. Rustler’s use of metal along the sides plays against the solid wood in the spine of the core, creating a fun and memorable ski experience in a variety of conditions and terrain. The turned-up tail makes a lot of sense when it comes to mixing on and off-trail applications, and it also brings the park in play. While there are certainly better pure freestyle options, there aren’t many skis out there that can go in and out of different use cases with the same smoothness and ease.

Who it's For:

Strong skiers looking for a ski that handles variety. If you don’t know what a given day is going to produce, but you want one pair of skis to handle it all, this is the place to be.
