2026 Men's 100 mm Freeride Ski Comparison

2026 Men's 100 mm All Mountain Ski Comparison

OCTOBER 9, 2025 | WRITTEN BY Bob St.Pierre

Now on to Part 2 of our ~100 mm Comparison Series, we’re moving into skis with more all-mountain performance and preference. While many of these skis have a lot of metal, heft, and power, there are still some easier ones that are great for skiers who are learning to navigate more technical and adventurous zones. At the beginning of the list, there are some remnants of more twin tip shapes, and there is some drama in the rocker profiles throughout, but for the most part, these skis have a more directional flair with less creativity than the previous list of ~100 mm twin tips. These skis do a great job of mixing on-trail carving with off-trail poise, but they fall on the more powerful side of the spectrum mainly due to increases in heftier construction materials.

Overview:

With a lighter weight and an easy flex, it’s fairly simple to put the Elan Ripstick 102 at the head of this list. It’s no secret that Elan does a great job of making fun, energetic, and exciting skis, nor is it breaking news that these aren’t the most powerful and demanding skis on the planet. At 102 mm underfoot, there’s certainly a softer snow component here, and that does take away from any real firm snow carving, but there’s still energy and zip here, as evidenced by the use of carbon and lighter wood. These skis are wonderfully easy in the trees and softer bumps, and while they can get hung up a bit when it comes to heavier snow, when it’s light and dry, these skis are a blast. The softer shovel bends pretty easily, so pressuring the tips is a dicey proposition. It’s best to let the ski ride up and over softer snow rather than driving through with power.

Who it's For:

Fun-loving skiers who value quickness, energy, and lighter weight. You want something that floats well, and easily.

Overview:

There’s not a huge difference these days between the regular Ripstick and Black Edition, and that’s kind of a shame. In the first versions of the Black Edition, there was a notable uptick in stability, smoothness, and power. For 2026, the Ripstick 102 Black Edition does feel like it’s got a sturdier underfoot zone but still has the flexible shovel of the regular 102. This makes it quite similar. If you like all the energy and light weight zip of the 102, then the Black Edition is only going to tick that up a notch, which is great news for skiers who have been looking for a little more carbon power to go along with a highly mobile and agile ski with a great floaty shape. There’s a bit more kick at the end of the turn with these skis, but not a whole lot of change up front—you still have to be delicate if you’re a heavier skier. That said, it’s tough to think of a more maneuverable and playful directional ski than this.

Who it's For:

Skiers who love quickness and agility to go along with soft snow compliance will love the 102 Black Edition.

Overview:

Likely the most twin-tip shaped ski on this list, perhaps along with Ranger, Justis, and Soul, the Pandora 99 is more of a freeride ski, however the Chronic 101 took its place in that specific comparison. We think it’ll all shake out well, especially since the Pandora is a fairly sturdy ski even with a more playful shape and profile. Built with an aspen wood core, the Pandora 99 also has thick sidewalls for increased power and durability. Despite the more central mount point of –4.5 from center, these skis feel more directional due to the variances in rocker profile from tip to tail as well as the amount of camber. The versatility of this ski stands out, with a consistent flex, a fun-loving character, and a wide range of sizes for a lot of different skiers.

Who it's For:

Big range here. With a span of sizes and a unisex marketing goal, the Pandora 99 is built and shaped for everyone.

Overview:

Now in year two, the Liberty Radian 100 features a light and fun feel to go along with a smooth and sturdy underfoot zone. There’s metal underfoot and carbon stringers to energize the ski, but overall, the blend of poplar and ash makes it a relatively quiet ski for a variety of turn shapes and styles. While nothing particularly sticks out about this ski, it does have a smooth and silent character that makes it pleasing to ski. Like all Radians, the 100 has a spoonier tip shape to help with flotation and soft snow performance while the tail is far more directional and engaging. This makes it a very versatile ski, especially on this list, and not too demanding for progressing intermediates or early advanced skiers. That shovel is also on the flexible side, so you do have to beware if you’re pushing too hard on groomers.

Who it's For:

Skiers looking for something outside of the box will like the unique and individual feel of the Radian 100. You want stability, smoothness, and energy without working too hard for it.

Overview:

While there’s some weight here, making the ski a bit more difficult to maneuver than others, there’s still an easy flex and a gentle turn radius. This goes along with the ski’s more progressive taper shape and rocker profile to ensure that the Ranger 102 has a fun and playful style to mix with a firm on-snow capacity. This Ranger 102 does feel like it blends quite well the attributes that most skiers often talk about—they want a ski that can handle groomers with ease but can also float through powder. It’s one of those skis that can claim this magic combo as well as live up to the hype. We’ve also found that there’s enough of a turned-up tail here to warrant some freestyle conversation, although the flex cut in the titanal laminate underfoot does make forward binding movement a bit more of a consideration.

Who it's For:

Skiers who are looking for a versatile and smooth option that vacillates between on and off-trail will love the transitive capabilities of the Ranger 102.

Overview:

With a thinner and stiffer profile than most combined with a short radius and accompanying shape, the DPS Kaizen 100 is a capable floater that is also quite energetic and engaging on softer groomers. Kaizen uses the upper-end carbon construction featuring a blend of red oak and poplar in the wood core to go along with two full sheets of carbon. By using stronger woods and carbon mixed together, they can keep it thin, and thin profiles lead to more precision and engagement. DPS does a fine job by balancing that with a gratuitous rocker profile and taper shape that adheres to their 15-meter turn radius in all lengths. These skis are dynamite in the trees and incredibly fun in a carved turn. They won’t take to high speeds on firm snow all that well, but the overall shape and style of the ski lends to the softer side and mellower turn preferences.

Who it's For:

Precision-oriented skiers who love the feeling of a short to mid-radius carve with ease. You also want one of the best-floating 100mm skis out there.

Overview:

Now in year two of the current M-Pro 100 situation, Dynastar has a very well-balanced and fun-loving ski on their hands. The blend of metal, poplar wood, fiberglass, and polyurethane is unmatched in ski construction today, making these some of the more sophisticatedly built skis on the wall. The poplar wood core is basically split into three components, with two of them being milled and joined together using friction in the pressing process. This not only gives the skis a snappy and energetic feel, but also reduces the amount of epoxy used, lowering the environmental footprint. These skis also have a round shape, in rocker profile, taper shape, and turn radius. With a mix of attributes, these skis span the gamut when it comes to blending on-trail carving energy with off-trail versatility. As a directional ski with a partial metal laminate, it’s got some pop to it, but it’s also still relatively approachable due to the turn style.

Who it's For:

There’s a lot of skiers who should be on the M-Pro 100, but for some reason aren’t finding this ski. Whether its name, graphics, or something else, we’re not sure, but we think this is a drastically underrepresented ski on the market today.

Overview:

The all-new Head Kore 100 Ti has a lot to offer a wide range of skiers who throroughly enjoy mixing terrain and snow conditions without thinking of gear. With a blend of karuba and beech in the wood core, the big new story here is the dual-metal laminate that is 100% different from the carbon Kore of years past. Now, we get a smoother, damper ski from the build while the shape and profile keep it energetic and high functioning. The on-trail carving is crisp and quiet while the ski uses its width and rocker to make off-trail performance fun and engaging. While traditional carbon Kore enthusiasts will certainly miss that specific blend of light weight and stiff flex, but for Head, the motivation is to include more skiers and as a result, more purchasers.

Who it's For:

Skiers looking for a traditional feel and a good amount of energy will love the versatility and composed feel of the Kore 100. This is a good ski on this list if you’re looking for a middle-ground option.

Overview:

We always joke about how Stockli’s widest and most freeride-oriented ski also has one of the flattest tails on the entire ski market. This shows their preference and priority in making strong and precise on-trail skis, and that certainly filters into the wider 102. As the Stormrider skis get wider, the taper increases as does the softening of the flex. These 102’s have relatively soft tips, but they’re still very smooth and quiet due to the rubber material and dual-metal laminates. These skis are so incredibly silent and vibration-free. They work best in an on-trail format and fare well in crud and chop, but if you’re more aggressive, you may feel like you’re pushing through the shovel a bit more than you’d like. As a result, they’re easy to ski in the front half but are very crisp and energetic out of the tail. Given an open groomer with softer packed powder, it’d be hard to choose a different ski for pure quality and silence.

Who it's For:

Quality-oriented skiers who value smoothness, power, and groomer performance. You are not looking for the most playful ski out there.

Overview:

With fantastic energy, good flotation, and vigorous rebound, the Armada Declivity X 102 is a well-rounded ski that certainly blurs the line between all-mountain and freeride. It’s mainly the slightly stiffer flex that keeps it where it is, as the longer taper and rocker profile make it a very good floater in softer snow. It makes great quick turns, is more agile than you may expect, and has a very precise and high-quality feel to it. In dry snow, this thing totally rips and has the capacity to be responsive and find the firmer snow below all while remaining engaged in the shape and style of turn that you’re intent on making. What’s especially fun and interesting about this ski is that it’s able to make all sorts of turns at a variety of speeds and works well for both mellower and more aggressive skiers. As such, it’s a very accessible ski that also handles speed and technical terrain.

Who it's For:

Strong and energetic skiers will like it the most, but it’s still an approachable ski that borders on the freeride and all-mountain lines, opening its versatility.

Overview:

Built with speed and agility in mind, the Kastle Paragon 101 is well-versed in any conditions or terrain. With a sophisticated wood core to go along with two sheets of metal, the Paragon 101 has a very sturdy and strong build. The shovel shape, and the relatively lighter weight, though, keep it slightly on the friendly side, as the ski is quite mobile. Due to Kastle’s use of the taper and rocker of the ZX 108 in all ZX, Paragon, and Obsidian skis, there’s a freeride component here and a preference for softer snow as far as the top third of the ski. The rest of the way, the Paragon 101 slices and dices through crud, chop, groomers, and hard pack with relative ease. It’s more directional in the back half, so it does feel like it has some of that Kastle precision that we see in the MX or the older FX lines. As a result, this is a supreme performer in variable conditions and terrain and an unflinching ski.

Who it's For:

Dynamic skiers who look to live in between the groomers and the bowls. You want a precise on-trail ski but don’t want to give up much when it comes to powder and softer snow.

Overview:

This is always one of those skis that doesn’t usually creep into the top of the discussion, but then we get on it and are reminded of the ski’s innate capabilities to carve hard turns, handle high speeds, and do both with an amazing amount of stability and predictability. There are no changes here, other than graphics, so we’re hopeful that more skiers can get on these skis and realize just how much of a blend of fun and chargey these skis are. We’ve always put them alongside the Nordica Enforcer in terms of power and consistency, and they certainly still live there. They excel in both groomers and choppy snow, but aren’t quite as versatile in deeper snow, tighter spaces, or trees. This is more of an advanced and expert level ski and just feels incredibly solid on the feet.

Strong skiers will get the best results here as the burly nature of the ski takes over, especially at speed.

Overview:

The Black Crows Justis is an incredibly fun, powerful, and well-rounded ski that will surprise and impress almost everyone. That said, it’s a pretty high-octane ski that can also feel unapproachable at lower speeds or at shallower edge angles. The ski certainly comes to life when pushed, and that’s really what keeps it on this end of the wall. If you look at just the profile, though, it definitely looks like more of a freeride option with tons of rocker, but the build and the sidecut make it a lot more demanding and expert-oriented than that profile lets on. This ski floats great for a 100 mm underfoot ski, but the best part has got to be the carving energy and substantial edge grip. While the stated radius on the ski is 21-meters in the 183, it sure feels like it’s capable of shorter, but it also allows for more playful skiing. It’s a really interesting and exciting ski, just not too easy to get all of it unless you’re willing to put in the extra work.

Overview:

Strong, sturdy, and a ton of fun, these hefty and powerful skis have an interesting blend of fall-line preference and firm snow carving. While the stated radius on the long 188 is 18-meters, it feels like it wants to go way straighter than that. The titanal beam that runs through the center feels way longer than advertised, but it’s totally acceptable that the carbon alloy matrix takes up more of the strength in this ski. In the longer length, the ski tops out at around 2300 grams, so this thing can certainly feel like a monster. When tested alongside other skis of this caliber, the Sender Soul 102 feels like a solid and stable ski that helps you find the fall line and head down the mountain at careening speeds.

Overview:

With an amazing blend of crispness, edge grip, and stability, the Enforcer 99 returns as an incredibly predictable ski that can motor through and over just about anything. With two sheets of metal, a pulse core laminate, and a stiff flex, this ski is a fantastic carver on anything from super firm to quite soft, and the off-trail capacity is better than you may think. In a straight line, or in more of a fall-line mentality, the ski is a bit planky, but once you get it up on edge, the turning, steering, and carving wonderment starts to kick into high gear. While firmer moguls are a bit of a handful, softer ones are just fine, as the ski can be used somewhat deftly when asked. It’s the high-performance ceiling that really makes this ski stand out, and it makes a lot of sense why this is such a popular ski for the better part of a decade now.

Overview:

Volkl saw no reason to change the construction of the Mantra 102, mainly because this thing is already a beast. No need to alter personas here—the Mantra 102 rips carved turns on groomers, is incredibly precise on ice, and totally blows through crud and chop with ease. Like its narrower brethren, the Mantra 102 isn’t terribly fun or playful when the conditions get tight and variable, it’s still very precise for initiating turns and carves. If there’s firm snow underneath the soft, the Mantra will prefer to carve on that surface, rather than stay on top and dance/play around. That said, if you’re looking for a wide carving ski that has power and stability to spare, it’s tough to find a better option than this ski.

Overview:

We love talking about the distinctions between the amazing Anomaly 102 and the aforementioned Mantra 102 when it comes to power, stability, and demand. What we’ve basically found is that the Mantra works better as a wider carving ski while the Anomaly is more of an off-piste and aggressive freeride charger. You can still carve on an Anomaly for sure, but the flatter tail and longer camber allow the ski to absorb more impacts and cut through choppier and mankier snow with greater confidence. On a powder day, we think most skiers will opt for the Anomaly as it’s able to do more things. That said, it’s a lot of work, and if you are looking for something that can get you from the top of any mountain in the world to the bottom as fast as possible, this has got to be the best ski to do just that.
