The legendary Kastle MX 88 with Marker COMP 12 GW Bindings reclaims its esteemed position among top-tier carving setups. Known for its almost limitless edge grip and high-speed stability, the MX 88 stands out as one of the most powerful all-mountain carving skis available. Its blend of power, precision, grip, dampness, and energy makes it a formidable performer on groomers and hard-packed snow, never backing down from a challenge. We paired the MX 88 with the Marker Comp 12 because of this binding’s precision and power for aggressive piste skiers who require a lower DIN setting. The fact that the lighter-duty Comp 12 utilizes some of Marker’s best race tech to ensure that performance, safety, and proper release are of the highest priority makes it a perfect pairing with this ski.
Why we like it:
The MX 88’s exceptional balance between power and precision places it at the forefront of high-performance 88 mm waisted carving skis.
Who it's for:
Advanced to expert skiers, especially those with a racing or competition background, will fully appreciate the capabilities of the MX 88.
Highlights:
The MX 88 features Kastle’s advanced InfiniCore technology, which includes strategically placed stringers of poplar and beech woods. The central area primarily uses beech stringers, while the outer sections are composed mainly of poplar, optimizing the ski's longitudinal and torsional flex for superior carving performance. This technology is further supported by nearly two full sheets of titanal. Additionally, the MX 88 incorporates Kastle’s Hollowtech EVO, which removes extra material from the tip, enhancing the previous Hollowtech design by further reducing swing weight. The Fast Grip Shovel and Tail provide a long effective edge, ensuring maximum grip throughout the turn, even on firm snow. The Marker Comp 12 binding is loaded with tech that comes directly out of the race room. The Comp Toe piece functions to absorb vibrations and feedback from the snow, keeping the boot stable and centered. The TwinCam X heel piece is designed with greater elasticity in the release, which increases binding-to-boot connectivity for more control throughout the turn. Finally, the Gliding AFD ensures a precise release that’s unhindered by snow or ice buildup.
Things to consider:
The MX 88 is a powerful and robust ski, better suited for experienced skiers with a refined technique. It may be challenging and unforgiving for those lacking a competitive background or advanced skills.
