A relatively simple core features lightweight wood and 5620 cross-weave fiberglass wrapped vertically in order to keep it poppy yet smooth and highly durable. This leaves the rider feeling stable and damp and high speed but able to easily wiggle through trees and pop off features. In addition to the freeride-oriented profile, it also features a directional twin shape, allowing for regular and switch riding abilities. Caitlin Kelly tested the 147 in length and while she found it to be true to size, she would most likely size up for herself. With top scores awarded for playfulness and forgiveness, we can see why given the nature of this board and the soft, forgiving flex. The rest of the categories earned 4s, which still speaks to the well-rounded nature of the Soulside. The one category that lacked slightly was versatility, which adds up given the fact that it is softer than most boards and may not excel in firm, fast conditions. With all of that in mind, Caitlin did note that it’s a “great board for beginners looking to hone in their snowboard skills. Super playful board to explore the whole mountain.” We can certainly agree with Caitlin that the Soulside is an excellent beginner board and one that will help riders to improve on their skillset.
