The Ride MTNPIG is a fantastic option for aggressive riders who have a strong preference for groomers and powder. It’s got an interesting shape and profile to it that makes it uniquely built for a variety of conditions and terrain. Built with their performance core, the board has a strong and sturdy start to it. They then add Carbon Array 5 to the mix, which places carbon stringers in strategic points in order to increase the torsional stiffness of the board without losing the playful and fun-loving nature. In addition to those stringers, Ride also infuses carbon into the fiberglass laminate, stiffening and adding energy to the entirety of the deck. If you’re looking for snappy energy at a light weight, the MTNPIG is a fantastic choice for a board.

The interesting stuff really stands out when the Split Tail is brought into the chat. By splitting the tail, running about 10 cm up from the back, they’re creating a super-playful and smooth finish to the turn. This works extremely well in soft snow and powder, making the directional nature of the board shine through. It’s pretty impressive how much pressure you can put on one half of the rear end of the board, and the MTNPIG responds properly with each and every turn. That Split Tail is enhanced by the concave tail shape overall, adding even more powder and soft-snow prowess to the mix. If you like riding that tail and making a variety of turn shapes and styles as a result, the MTNPIG is certainly worth a strong look.

Sam Whitney’s 159 test board rode true to size, and he scored it all 4’s right across the board with the exception of 3’s for quickness and maneuverability. The Split Tail, for all of its drifty goodness, isn’t quite as responsive or agile, mainly because it leads to a softer flex on your uphill edge. That’s fine, and part of the deal with MTNPIG. Sam notes that “Despite how the split in the tail looks this board rides exactly how you want an all-mountain board to ride. With the stance just slightly back from center it carved really well both regular and switch as well as spun in the park easily. By far the best part of the board is how you can manipulate the tail throughout a carve, lifting up on the nose while mid-turn allows the tail to flex and creates a tight turn radius on your back foot going from a normal carve into a tight slash so smoothly.” That’s some pretty good feedback on the board as a whole, and especially how that tail factors in to the all-mountain capabilities of the ride.

MTNPIG is a fantastic choice for advanced and expert riders who are looking for something a little bit out of the box. Thanks to the unique tail shape, directional nature, and strong construction, the Ride MTNPIG is a great option for riders who are on the aggressive side of the spectrum and who typically are in search of fresh and soft snow, but also love ripping groomers on a daily basis as well.
