Somewhere in between the all-mountain range and the race ski world lies the myriad grouping of frontside skis. These are race-inspired carvers that are meant for on-trail and groomed performance. If you spend most of your time on-piste in search of the perfect carved turn, skis like the Stockli Montero AX or the Rossignol Forza 70 V-Ti will get you there. Skis in this range go between 68 and 86 mm underfoot and usually provide a strong construction from denser woods like beech and ash and usually use multiple laminates of titanal. Carving turns like a racer but still versatile enough for various conditions throughout the day, frontside skis can handle many resort applications. Whether you’re looking for the stable and planted Blizzard Thunderbird R15 or a bit lighter and more mobile Nordica Steadfast 80, if you spend most or all of your time on-trail, there’s a frontside ski here for you. Make sure to check out our frontside ski reviews and comparisons on Chairlift Chat and in our latest Ski Test.
