2026 Men's 100 mm Freeride Ski Comparison

2026 Men's 100 mm Freeride Ski Comparison

SEPTEMBER 24, 2025 | WRITTEN BY Bob St.Pierre

The lists of amazing skis keep rolling out, this time with Freeride-oriented skis in the ~100 mm range. While there are some stiffer and heftier skis on this list, in comparison, they’re still slightly easier to ski than the ones we’ll feature on the All-Mountain section in Part 2. In Part 1, though, we’re focusing more on skis that have lighter weights, more rounded shapes, and increased freestyle capabilities than some of their Part 2 brethren. By looking at softer snow, more playful and creative skiing, and increased creativity, the skis on this list serve well as mixing park, trees, groomers, and bumps with ease. You could easily make an argument that these are some of the most well-rounded skis on the market today, and we wouldn’t get too heated about it.

Overview:

The lightness of the Elan Playmaker 101, combined with its floaty and smeary shape, make it such a great choice for skiers looking for soft snow fun and mobility. These have got to be the easiest skis to throw sideways on the market today, and for skiers who need some help in the creativity and freestyle department, this is a very welcome capacity. When you add freestyle and park performance to the mix, the Playmaker 101 becomes a very useful freeride tool. While the on-trail performance simply can’t stand up to the heftier and stabler skis on this list, if you stay balanced and are somewhat easy on the edges, it at least comes around nicely. The carbon tubes give the ski decent grip and pop, but the ends of the skis are super light and agile for off-trail and freestyle use.

Who it's For:

Fun and creative skiers who like to ski sideways as much as vertically. You love a light ski that can be placed anywhere.

Overview:

The Scope skis are now in their second year of existence, and they’ve already gotten a bit of a change. The 99 is a new width in the Scope line and serves as a good intermediary between the park-focused 94 and the softer snow oriented 104. We move from poplar and ash to just poplar in the core, but they use it in a thicker profile to give it a bit more stiffness. As a result, this ski is a bit burlier than the Scopes from last year, delivering a bit more grip and stability without taking away the freestyle and freeride componentry. These skis work great in the bumps, trees, and park, but if you’re heavy or aggressive, they will let you know just how flexible they are. In this ski, it’s all about smoothness and forgiveness, and it goes a long way in keeping skiers excited and engaged in the process.

Who it's For:

Freestyle-oriented skiers looking for a wider twin that has a lot of flex and not a lot of demand.

Overview:

The Atomic Bent 100 is a ubiquitous ski, especially in this category. It really is everywhere and can be used by a wide variety of skiers in several different situations. Now in year two of the current construction and shape, we do get a slightly more involved ski that has good reaction to variable snow conditions and terrain as well as having a nice park presence. It’s a good floater, a good tree ski, fun in the bumps, and serviceable in the park. With a lighter weight and a decent amount of camber, the skis have pretty good energy for the heft. We certainly get a different feel here in terms of the graphics, after a few years of colorful assault, we’re now working with more earthy tones, which is great if you’re looking for a bit of a change.

Who it's For:

Lots of skiers. You are an average skier who likes to experiment and adventure on the snow.

Overview:

With a bit smoother of a feel in deeper snow, the ARV 100 is a great floater and has a quiet and silent character. This ski gets a graphic update for this year but continues the trend of a poplar wood core with an ash insert and Armada’s W3dgewall technology. There’s a lower overall profile that leads to those smooth characteristics, making it a lot of fun and a very adventurous ski. This ARV 100 works amazingly well in the trees, is an exceptional floater, and loves to have a shallower edge angle implemented. When you get it up higher and create some steeper shapes, the flex of the ski combined with the build won’t hold up go much more aggressive skiing. At the end of the day, it’s a fun, playful, mid-weight ski that has a smoother feel than one may expect.

Who it's For:

Fun seekers. Whether you’re looking for a wider park ski or a slightly narrower freeride twin, the ARV 100 checks a lot of boxes.

Overview:

The K2 Reckoner 102 is a very interesting ski because it has a softer flex pattern, but a heavier weight and a sturdy underfoot feel, making it stand out from a competitive field of skis. This is mostly a twin tip meant for park and freestyle use, and it excels in that zone for sure. On the other end, the way in which K2 uses carbon stringers makes it a lot of fun in a turning format as well. It’s fun to take full advantage of the flex of the skis and the sidecut, especially if you like a more symmetrical and balanced feel. These skis hold up very well to aggressive park skiing and creative groundwork in addition to being quite a bit of fun in the trees and powder. We get a 17.7-meter turn radius in the 177 and a weight at just over 2000 grams, giving this ski a unique blend of construction, shape, and profile for a variety of different skiers and skier types.

Who it's For:

Generally freestyle-oriented skiers will get the best out of the Reckoner 102, but it can also be a very interesting and unique ski for modern freeriders looking for a slightly narrower ski to tame softer snow and natural features.

Overview:

Similar to the K2 Reckoner, the Chronic 101 is a heftier and sturdier ski than the flex may indicate. We get a thick aspen wood core, especially in the middle half of the ski, while the tips and tails are thin, flexible, and incredibly playful. This allows the ski to easily enter and exit turns while the strong underfoot zone provides excellent edge grip and power throughout. We’ve been continually impressed with the Chronic 101 and its ability to handle more aggressive skiing while allowing for increased creativity in the park and beyond. Even within a very crowded field of fun and interesting skis in this width and shape, the Chronic 101 stands out as a surprising ski with excellent energy. The weight and flex may seem to make it feel dull, but the on-snow performance is anything but.

Who it's For:

This is a tough one to pin down as it walks many different sides. It is such a good carving ski but also has a freestyle focus. If you have both of those attributes in your repertoire, then go get it.

Overview:

So far, this is likely the most directional of this group, but it fits in with freeride because of its softer snow preference. These skis have a 15-meter turn radius and a whole lot of rocker and taper to make sure it turns that way. While it’s not a twin tip like most of these skis, it does have a very surfy and smeary character that puts it more on the creative side of the spectrum. We’ve found it to excel in deep and snowy trees and also be quite engaging in a carved turn on groomers. We love the blend of carbon stringers to go along with a poplar core—this ski does have some unexpected energy to it for sure. They’re an interesting ski, especially with the short arc and dramatic shape, but for skiers who are looking to take advantage of their technique and adhere to shorter and more consistent turns.

Who it's For:

Precision-oriented skiers who value quality and like the feel of a slightly different ski.

Overview:

This new ski from Nordica is taking square aim at some of the more popular skis in this range by offering a known shape and style with a lower price point. Basically, they took the metal and carbon out of the 98 Ti and reduced the price by $100. Perhaps unexpectedly, they also made a really energetic, fun, grippy, and awesome ski. I’m sure that was part of the plan, but the execution is fantastic. The Unleashed 98 shape is very fun and engaging, bringing versatility from both a freestyle and all-mountain perspective into the forefront of the conversation. We found this ski to work amazingly well even on firm groomers, taking advantage of a long effective edge to deliver smoothness and predictability. With a lot of energy due to the strong wood core, the skis deliver a ton of rebound to the tail end of the turn. Great in bumps, trees, and park as well, this ski is a truly versatile twin tip.

Who it's For:

This should be a very popular ski and a good option for those looking for a non-metallic twin for park and beyond.

Overview:

With a lot of zip and energy in the tail to complement a floaty and drifty shovel, the Kastle ZX 100 is an easy to use directional freeride ski that feels both substantial and exciting. Kastle uses a blend of poplar and beech in the core, but there’s no metal like we see in the sturdier Paragon 101. As a result, skiers are going to get increased mobility and agility, especially in tighter trees. There’s quite a bit of taper in the tip, and interestingly, the same rocker profile as both the wider and narrower skis in the ZX line, lending to a consistent and predictable feel throughout the range. This ski works great for those who spend a lot of time in search of softer snow but also want some pep when they get back on trail. Kastle’s build quality is evident here as well, as the ski’s use of a Hollowtech cutout in the tip helps reduce vibrations and keep the ski on its intended course.

Who it's For:

Skiers who love trees, groomers, and powder. You don’t want to sacrifice flotation for energy, or vice versa.

Overview:

With a good amount of carbon to go along with green core technology, the Head Oblivion 102 has a nice mix of traditional shaping to go along with modern construction. The overall footprint of the ski leads to faster speeds and longer turns with an interesting turn radius. These skis feature a 22.8-meter turn radius in the 181 and have minimal taper and rocker. This is more of a freestyle-focused twin rather than an all-mountain or freeride option, although we won’t tell people not to use it on a daily basis. That said, the traditional shape and camber of this ski lean more to a true twin tip with a long radius that can withstand some strong skiing. With a lot of carbon, these skis have better energy with less weight than many other twins on this level.

Who it's For:

Energetic and engaging skiers who love to mix freestyle in with their skiing. Whether it’s pure park or natural features, the Oblivion 102 is all about energetic tricks.

Overview:

This is a ski that we’re going to see a whole lot of this year on the hill. As an early release last year, the QST 100 got a head start on the competition, not like it needed it. This is about as complete as it gets in the ski world. With a blend of powder flotation, groomer energy, and all-around pleasant skiing qualities, it’s tough to formulate a negative opinion of the QST 100 in any way, shape, or form. These skis simply make quick work of a variety of snow conditions and terrain. This makes them exceptional in our trees here in Vermont, but they also hold a clean edge and make it fun to adventure through bumps and rip down firmer groomers. While the lack of metal keeps it from being a total beast, it’s still got some heft and energy due to a thick and solid poplar core combined with full-length basalt fibers. Overall, this is an easy ski to choose and to use.

Who it's For:

Huge range. Big time universal appeal here. Maybe a bit wide for most front-side oriented skiers but still does surprisingly well.

Overview:

With a bit of a freestyle flair due to a central feel, the new Rossignol Sender Free 100 brings big mountain style to the park and all-mountain realms. Based off the success and universal appeal of the wider Sender Free 110, the 100 brings most of the same attributes to a narrower footprint. While it does not feature the exact same build as the 110, most notably the absence of a titanal beam, we think it still works well as a 100 mm twin tip that has a freestyle focus without removing versatile performance. Perhaps the metal would have made it a lot less playful in this width and taken away from slopestyle and creative skiing. As it is, it functions very well as a smooth, predictable ski that has a lot of energy due to the mix of camber and carbon/basalt fibers below the poplar core.

Who it's For:

Many skiers who are in this range will love the balance and poise of the Sender Free 100. If you have a park background or preference, so much the better!

Overview:

Give me an Armada Stranger to ski every day of the year and I’m a happy skier. These skis, mainly due to the fact that they’re in Armada’s Zero collection, are so under the radar it’s not even funny. Built with a strong wood core consisting of poplar and ash, the Stranger has a solid feel to it while delivering energetic performance. This is a wide-bodied directional twin tip that has a lot of splay and rocker in both tips and tails to go along with a short turn radius. We usually talk about uniqueness when it comes to skis like the Black Crows Mirus Cor or the Line Sakana, but we can totally put the Stranger in this category as well. They’re not light, so be prepared for that, but they also don’t come longer than a 180, so most larger skiers will be able to wrangle the Stranger with relative ease. They flex easily but weigh a lot, so they prefer deeper and more loping carves, but then they are super fun in the trees and other technical zones. A very rare treat, indeed.

Who it's For:

Interestingly, they should be for a lot of skiers, but the fact that they come in either a 172 or a 180 is going to be a limiting factor here.

Overview:

While the M-Free 99 was always a fantastic, fun, and exciting ski, Dynastar ratchets it up a notch with the all-new M-Free 100. This was one of the last skis to utilize the Hybrid Core 2.0 consisting of the new wood core layers, and it’s interesting to see how it adds strength, stiffness, and energy to the ski. Now, the M-Free 100 is more composed on groomers and has a more aggressive mindset to it, which lends to more advanced and expert skiing. We always referred to the M-Free 99 as a wonderful tree ski, and that continues to the 100, but it’s just a bit harder to flex through the camber of the ski to get it as easy to turn or as mobile as the 99, which simply had more flex to it. These skis still have a whole lot of drama in the rocker profile and splay, making them incredibly bouncy and energetic. The smoothness comes from the construction, but the pop comes from the camber.

Who it's For:

Modern freeride skiers. Those who have a lot to gain by a slightly stiffer and zippier twin will love the power and consistency of the M-Free 100.

Overview:

The Rossignol Super Blackops returns again with a new graphic—this time it’s based off of the 7SK yellow from the 90’s. It’s a good thing that this ski works well and is beloved by many skiers, because they keep trotting out the same build and shape. This is great news for skiers who are looking for a stable platform and a strong overall ski. These things are smooth and predictable—capable of making very clean turns on groomers and moving more into adventurous terrain. Some skis feel stiffer on snow than in a hand-flexing format, and I’d put these in that category. There’s more of a metallic feel to the ski, and while we do get metal underfoot to go along with rubber inserts in the tips and tails, the overall core profile is on the thinner side. So, they hand flex pretty easily, but they feel a lot stouter on snow.

Skiers who loved the Dynastar Slicer and Menace 98 as well as the entire Blackops 98 series.

Overview:

With a fresh new look and the same great build, the Nordica Unleashed 98 Ti is one of the most rewarding and satisfying skis on this list. There’s no good reason why a twin tip ski of this shape should carve as well as it does but here we are. Basically, we’re looking at Santa Ana construction with a beech and poplar wood core to go along with a sheet of Terrain Specific Metal and some carbon infused in the fiberglass. You can certainly feel the damp grip of the metal and the energy of the carbon here as it aligns well with the longer camber profile that we see, especially when placed up against more freeride-oriented twins. This one has more of a classic feel to it, even versus the Santa Ana line. If you like park skis with metal, go right for it—some skiers find them to be on the demanding side for pure freestyle, hence the addition of the CA version of this 98. Overall, it’s a wonderful all-mountain carver with twin tip aspirations.

Overview:

This smooth performer has a whole lot to offer skiers who are spending most of their time in search of soft snow without paying the expense of poor groomer performance. These Rustler 10’s are excellent on-trail skis as well, but with a flatter profile and more splay in the tips and tails, they function extremely well in crud, chop, trees, and powder. For a ski with metal, these things can get sideways pretty easily, so they also split the realms of accessible and demanding. With a metal frame as part of the construction, these sophisticated skis produce good edge grip while also allowing for proper and ample flex from fore to aft. They’re not nearly as easy to use in trees and bumps as the skis at the beginning of this list, nor are they particularly freestyle-oriented, but they do operate with a high level of performance in off-piste and more open situations.

Overview:

This new ski from Volkl was one of the most surprising and capable skis of this past year. The Revolt 101 is an extremely interesting ski, and it is not what we expected it to be, especially when noting that it uses the Revolt naming. As an aside, the Revolt 114 and the 101 are vastly different from the rest of the twin tips in the Revolt line—these are more big-mountain and hard-charging skis while the 104, 96, 90, and 86 are more freestyle and park focused. This 101 is basically a pared down 114 with a smooth and low rocker profile and a thick wood core. It carves incredibly well for a 101 without metal, but its stiffer flex keeps it from being particularly playful. It makes quick and definitive turns when asked and also can open up and be used at high speeds and in more of a GS format. This ski could easily be placed in Part 2 of the 100 mm range as a burly all-mountain ski, however it still falls a bit short of the Mantra 102’s performance level. That said, it’s incredibly fun for skiers who have the skills, and it makes quick work of anything soft as it just cuts right through.

Who it's For:

Stronger and more skilled skiers will get more out of this ski due to the stiffness.
